Help my new crestie eat Gutload them or try a different kind of dust. When I had picky eaters like that I would only lightly dust the crickets at first. Over time they began to tolerate or like it (who know what goes on in their tiny brains) and they would finally eat crickets that were completely dusted. I would recommend buying the cricket feed from a pet store to gutload the crickets. It won’t smell as bad as dog food or even smell at all.

Help my new crestie eat Dusting IS good but what my point was is that your new crestie probably has no idea what that powder is so he spits out the crickets. When the crickets are completely covered all the crestie tastes is the powder and not the cricket so he’s very confused. If you don’t mind touching the cricket’s back legs I would recommend just dipping the cricket in the powder so not to have too much on it. Giving the crestie too much calcium and vitamins can lead to health problems too. If you have a UVB flourescent bulb I would refrain from using any powder that has a lot of vitamin D in it. The UVB light allows the cresties to synthesize vitamin D on its own.

Help my new crestie eat I had the same problem with my golden geckos. Both of them would ALWAYS spit out the dusted crickets, which would escappe into the tank and clean the dust off of themselves only to be eaten later when they were clean. Try mixing the vitamins in with some baby food or some mashed up bannanas mixed with a little honey. Mine can’t resist any kind of sweet fruit and don’t seem to care that the powder is mixed in it.(btw, I used the exact same powder when I dusted the crickets and when I mixed it in the fruit). Hope this helps!~Cro

Help my new crestie eat Are you feeding any baby food fruit? Their diet is primarily a fruit diet and crickets or wax worms are strictly for a little fat content and some protein. I use baby food fruit and add day gecko diet to the fruit mixture. I also give a couple of wax worms once a week for some fat to the diet. The day gecko food has calcium and minerals already added. I also do not use light because it adds heat to the tank. Heat will kill a crestie also they are nocturnal so they are out basically at night.Joan A.
