 Viper gecko issues

my viper gecko isn’t eating much. I’ve read a few care sheets and they all say these guys should be eating like 3-6 crickets a night. Mine eats one mealworm, maybe a cricket a day. I’ve been giving her a waxworm here and there so she doesn’t get all skinny. She looks pretty healthy now, but I’m afraid that will change very quickly.

temp and enviornment is good, just don’t know why she’s not eating.

instead of saying temp and environment are good could you give us a rundown? it would help more just to make sure. if you ever see a freah fecalscoop it out put it in a zip[lock bag and put it in the fridge untill you can get it to a vet to get an exam done.. its possible it may be parasites

she’s suppose to be captive bred, but who knows these days. She’s got 85 degree during the day and about 76 at night. I have her on very fine, water dish plus I spray her tank plants lightly, a calcium dish, and two hide spots (one hot end, one cool end).

Her poop looks normal, as in not runny or weird.

Thanks for the tip on parasites, but could it be anything else? Maybe she doesn’t like crickets anymore. I’ve got some lobster roaches and phoenix worms comming in by mail...going to try those.

you have her on very fine what?? sand? if so id try taking her off it.. i know places say they supposedly spit it out but with such a tiny gecko i wouldnt risk using a loose substrate

is she still eating the mealies and stuff?

She’s never had a problem with the sand before. She’s never been very active, but always at least chased after crickets or check out her food dish. I always count out my feeders so I know what they’ve eaten and how many; as far as I can tell, she’s only eating the waxworm (she gets one twice a week).

She’s not like skinny or anything. She has a pretty fat tail, rounded body, and well hydrated. She’s still pooping normal, but lately not eating much. Weird, huh?

Thanks for all the replies and advice, btw =)

im thinking shes not eating anything else because of the waxies... i think she knows that she gets them on a regular basis so she doesnt eat anything else waiting for those waxies

Starving herself for the good stuff. Nice. I’m taking them out of her diet them. I’m getting phoenix worms soon-ish so I’m going to add those in. From now on she only gets mealworms and crickets.

I’m assuming that when she’s hungry enough, she’ll chase after her meal?

yeah if you still have issues getting her to eat anything else you can try silkworms too.. those are how i got 2 of my leos eating again since theyre whiteish and soft bodied like waxies but wayyy more nutricious

I hope she eats those phoenix worms...if they ever get here!

I tired getting some silkworms, but they were out. =( Unless a cricket escaped, she seems to have eaten one last night.

I haven’t found very good caresheets really on these guys. But she seems happy so no complaints. I’ve never seen her drink...I spray the plant in there as well as keep a water dish, but she’s well rounded with a fat tail so she must be.
