 Sick viper gecko, maybe?

I have two vipers. Temp is 83 during the day, 75 at night. No sand, they have water, calcium, and food bowl. The two seem to get along perfectly. Tonight I noticed one of them kind of sucking its gut in. She eats well and has a round belly and nice fat tail. She’s been sucking in her gut and opening her mouth as if yawning. Should I be concerned?

I’m having a hard time understanding exactly what she looks like sucking in her gut. Can you see any ribs or anything? If her belly is round, how is she ’sucking’ in? Yawning usually isn’t a problem...I can’t really think of a case where it would be but you never know. Does her jaw look odd at all? Geckos yawn all the time, but if she leaves her mouth open for more than a few seconds, there could be something wrong. Hard to tell without seeing her. Can you maybe post a picture of her and her belly and what you mean by she’s sucking it in? What do you feed her?

Okay, it basically looks like the lower half of her abdomen is more round that her upper abdomen. It’s kinda dry heeving a bit kinda like she’s trying to throw up, but she’s not throwing up. When I try to touch her belly to try and maybe feel what’s going on, she runs. And then I try to pet her back, she starts to flick her tail and then runs.

She basically looks like she’s trying to throw up. I feed them phoenix worms and the occasional mealworm. They won’t go after crickets. I also throw in a butterworm once in a while. They’re all size appropriate. I’m thinking she might be pregnant, but I’m unsure. Her abdomen is bigger than it usually is and it looks like her tail size is shrinking.

Here’s a pic of her. You can see that the arch on her belly is not normal. The highest part of that arch on her belly is what she keeps on pulling closer to her spine. It looks like she’s trying to throw something up. She’ll squeeze, then open her mouth.

Hmm...I don’t really like the looks of that. It could be that she’s gravid but that doesn’t explain what she’s doing with her mouth and it looks a little extreme. She should see a vet. Could be something wrong with an organ and it’s swollen.

is she in with the other viper? i suggest seperating them if they are so you can keep a closer eye on her.

it looks like to me she is bloated possibly something she ate or possible parasite... id take her to the vet and see what they think.. though i know theres not a ton they can do since vipers are so tiny.

i had bred vipers before and none of my females bellies looked like that when they were gravid so im not sure if that may be the issue with yours or not

She is in there with another viper and they’ve always gotten along. They sleep close to each other, and roam around the tank together. I have the tank next to my bed with a night glo bulb so I watch them a lot at night.

Her substrate is rabbit pellets and I feed them in a dish always. The pellets are made from paper so if swallowed, they would kinda melt into pieces and come out the other end. I’m leaving out of town so I can’t take her to the vet until monday...I hope she makes it. I feel really, really bad.

it doesnt matter if they get along or not you need to seperate them to keep a closer eye on her. also get them on papertowel.. that bulge in her stomach may be from eating a piece of the substrate thats not being digested.

I found her passed away this morning. =( I was going to take her to the vet today to see if I can do something, but it was too late. The other one was curled up next to my dead female.

thanks for the advice, I appreciate it greatly. I should have taken her to the vet earlier..maybe they could have done something, even though it would be difficult because of her size. I’m not replacing her...I’m just going to keep my male.
