I would recommend the crested geckos (Rhacodactylus, ciliatus). It’s just about the perfect pet lizard. They are very easy to care for and are prolific breeders if you ever decide to propagate them. They can be really friendly to. The islands of New Caledonia where they are from have a warm, humid tropical climate. They are an arboreal nocturnal species who are a real thrill to watch at night. They can eat insects and various fruits though most people settle for the T-Rex crested gecko diet, baby food and or a mixture of the two, when it comes to the fruity part of their diet. They have a really cool prehensile tail that thy use to hold onto branches and plant stems, just be careful if they drop their tail it will never come back. If the cresteds are the only herps you have it shouldn’t be too, too expensive to have a colony of like five a large Exo-terra vivarium. They really are a fun species and if you do a little research on them I’m sure you’ll fall in love.[

ahh they are the one of the cutest ever ^_^ for juvies they start at about $30 at reptile shows

another good beginner are leopard geckos too that only get about 8 inches long on adverage adulsts otherwise there are ones called giant and super giant that get 11-12 inches depending on patterning they start at about $25-30 also

if your looking for a really small beginer gecko look into viper geckos they max out at about 3 inches.. their care is just about the same as a leos and can easily live in a 5 1/2 gallon talk is whole life. lowest ive seen on these guys was $25

i have all 3 kinds of geckos so heres a pic of each kind..
one of my favoritest out of all my cresties i have.. splotch.. then her smiling

my first baby of leos all growded up.. Squirt

and my baby of all babies.. Viper.. she is full grown in this picture..

I highly recommend vipers for anyone willing to do the research. They’re pretty easy to care for. I think one reason they aren’t mentioned as beginners as often as leos or cresties is because of their size. But they are awesome little geckos, with lots of personality tucked into those pretty little bodies. I’ve seen them for about $20 each at my local reptile expo.
