Hi all, and thanks in advance. I brought my daughter to school on Friday and the sight of a lizard scampering in a classroom is pretty common--my daughter is the class catcher. Well, this time I caught a glimpse of the "lizard" and noticed the big eyes, padded feet and short thick tail and exclaimed, "Gecko!" They are not indigenous to Northeast Florida and knew this was a rare find. I captured the baby, brought it home and set up a nice tupperware terrarium for it. My problem is my lack of Gecko knowledge and would like to determine the species. The gecko is brownish in overall hue with tiny white spots along it’s back. It’s tail is short, thick and pinkish with some darker and lighter banding.

Thanks again.

Hello:
The gecko in the picture is a Indo-Pacific Gecko (Hemidactylus garnoti). They have become established in Florida at least to the Tampa Bay/Brooksville area. What city was this one found in?
These geckos are interesting because they are parthenogenic. There are only females and each baby is a carbon copy of her mother.
Hope this info helps!!!
Have A Great Day!!!

that’s weird, I’m in 7th grade and in my home-ec classroom we found a lizard just like it. I tryed to catch it but some jerk beat me to it, and was to rough and the lizard dropped his tail.
