that’s one weirdly-colored house gecko. Unless she’s just showing one of her moods. Do you have any other full pictures of her?

Heh, house geckos are pretty easy to kill and I believe they’re as challanging to keep as anoles. Pretty sure you can find caresheets of them around the area. If you want to start with your first gecko, Herp13, then try a leopard gecko or crested gecko.

She changes colors alot. Sometimes she’s dark brown, other times, bright white. This is the other picture I have of her... I tried to take more, but she’s camera shy :( P.S., her fingers look amputated but they’re not, lol.

Ugh, they’re EXTREMELY challenging. This is my THIRD gecko. My last two didn’t last more than a week. I’ve had this one for about a month now, and she’s doing amazingly well:) I’m happy:) Herp13, I definately suggest you get a Leo gecko.

XD I swear that looks like a cross between a golden gecko and house gecko. The difference is really in the eyes and feet. Well, that and only male goldengeckos are bright-colored. Just wanted to bring this up.

Like I said before and HerpG recommends, a leo is the Beginner gecko.

I hope, since you said she’s gravid’ that she has hatchlings =D or at least eggs. Watching a lizard lay eggs is entertaining ^^

Lol, actually, when I got her I really thought she was a baby golden gecko. And I would love to have her lay the eggs successfuly. I’m borrowing an incubator from a friend of mine, and I hope to have little mini geckos soon. Baby anythings are just adorable. :)

Don’t be fooled by a house gecko’s cheap price tag. They’re HARD to care for. A Leo is a bit pricy, but they’re simple. Why don’t you just save your money until August.

well i have problems saving money, and the one i want to get is a very common one. the type i want to get is often released in homes as a roach killer. these are easy to take care of.

Leos will proabably save you money in the long run. because they are so simple to keep, they don’t need extra lighting, usually don’t require misting, and tolerate handling really well. And what is this you are talking about released in homes as a roach killer? You should never release a pet like a house gecko because you may never find it again. And besides if it dies you have spent all of that money for nothing, and you may not want another house gecko if your first one dies.

Why to you have trouble saving money? Do what herpgirl said and save money till august and buy a leo. Reptile like anoles and house geckos are sold at such low prices that people think they are easy to keep, even though they are one of the hardest lizards to keep. Plus if you want to handle your reptile leos are a better option. Anoles and house geckos are more for watching.

Basically.........get a leopard gecko

Yeah seriously dude. Leopard geckos are one of the easiest reptiles to keep. I ALWAYS recommend these to customers who come in looking for a first time reptile. So, nobody can stop you from getting a house gecko, but it’s a bad idea. They’re HIGH maintanence, DELICATE, and you can’t play with them like you can with a leo.

In places where bugs are an issue people release them on porpuse. They aren’t their pets. They are released as pest contrlers. But i have thought about it. House geckos are small, i think i would perfer a larger gecko. Something that everybody doesn’t have. Everybody has a leo. I don’t personally know anyone who has a skunk gecko, or a flying gecko. Everybody has a leo and a crested. i want something a little more exotic.

Herp13, I don’t recommend you buy a gecko because ’it’ll make you feel unique’ Don’t buy it for show to ’make you different’. If you look for someone people don’t normally have you may as well end up with a gecko you could accidentally kill or would be a vicious little hunk of lizard.

People get leos and cresties because they ensure a long life and are easy to take care of. They wont drain your wallet. They are (at least I know leos are) handleble. I’d hate for you to get a tokay then think you can carry it around.

Most geckos that are in homes for ’pest control’ are naturally wild. Like anoles, you find them outside running around the streets of florida. They get into homes, but are not peoples pets. People do not actually buy the geckos and unleash them. And I don’t recommend buying any gecko if you intend to unleash it on the house. Some geckos need special requirements in order to live and petstore geckos can Easily die of dehydration or starvation if left out of a tank to live on it’s own.

there are many easy to keep gackos that most people don’t notice. I know tokays are not handleable. They bite like crazy, and thats ok for me. I found out some bad news. I will have to feed comercial foods. My mom doesn’t want live feeding in her house.

Commercial foods? You mean like pellets? If so, I don’t think that a gecko is the right pet for you. All geckos need live food, even cresties which will take some ripe fruit and babyfood. None will thrive on commercial foods.

I agree. If your mother wont let you feed your gecko live foods. Then I believe you shouldn’t get a gecko until you move out. Geckos need live worms or crix to stay healthy. And some wont each touch dead/commercial stuff. The last think you want to do it grab the gecko and forcefeed it junk for the rest of it’s life. All that will bring is stress and unhappiness.
