  Carrot-Tailed Viper Geckos????

So what about ’em? Do they make good beginner lizards? What do they eat?
I was thinking of getting a leo, but thease lizards are really cute. If they’re not good starters, I’ll still get a leo. Any info is very appriciated

They are very hardy lizards. They eat crickets as the main diet and waxworms as treats. They have very high calcium requirements because they are very prolific geckos. They are a little more small and delicate than a leo so if this is your first pet lizard I would suggest starting with a leo first. Best of luck with whatever you choose.

YES, definately. Silies are one of the best feeders out there. the only problem is that they are a little on the expensive side, but if you want to spend the money they are highly nutricious and easy for vipers to digest because they’re sorft. and they’re easier to catch also

They are GREAT beginner lizards! Here is a caresheet on them. Captive Bred Geckos (who are in CO) sell them. There will probably be some available at the Colorado Herpetological Society’s 9th Annual Rocky Mountain Reptile Breeders’ Show and Sale.

How often should I dust the silkworms in vitamin supplements? And which supplements should I use? Thank you so much

For my entire collection of geckos I dust once a week for adult animals and up to three times a week for young, breeding or newly arrived animals. I swear by sticky tongue farm’s miner-all and vit-all. Both are great and have worked for all the years I’ve kept my animals. I would feed up to 3 to 5 worms every other day since they are smaller geckos.

I can only speak good things about miner-all since I’m still in the ’testing’ stages with vit-all. So far it seems to be doing a good job but only the miner-all is really necessary.

Thank you so much. Also, that care sheet says that a plastic shoebox is big enough for a pair. Can I house a single in a 2-gal critter cage?

Yeah, a 6-quart shoebox is big enough for a pair but I like to go a little bigger, since my animals are kept mainly for display the bigger an environment the more range of activities you get to see. The critter keeper might be pushing it, even for a single animal. I almost always use tanks since they can be heated properly. In my opinion I’d try something a little bigger than a 2-gal, maybe 5?

Well, I just realized that I have a spare 1-gal critter cage, so I’ll use that. I know its better to go bigger, but I’m very low budgeted. Thanks for your help. Yeah thats definatly the lizard I want (I’ve wanted a lizard for a long time =D).

  Carrot-Tailed Viper Geckos????

I just got sent a link to this forum, and I must say so far I’m impressed...I should probably introduce myself. My name is Mike, my fiance’ is Shelley. We will be getting married Aug. 27 of this year. I have been keeping and breeding reptiles since 1996 where the hobby sucked me in. We keep geckos (Vipers, crestys, gargoyles, leo’s, mossy leaf tails, and satanic leaf tails), colubrids (Tri color hognose, subocs, corns, black milks, rosy boas, and gray bands. Our newest addiction is poison dart frogs, I won’t list all of these as we have quite a few! We pride ourselves on GREAT customer service, healthy animals, and fair prices.

We won’t have any viper tails this year at the show as they are all spoken for, we have some eggs in the incubator currently. The viper tails on Captive Bred Geckos were from us, Andy bought a 10 lot last year at the show, and I don’t know if he kept any back to breed or not! They are a GREAT gecko once established, and seem to be fairly bullet proof after the first two months!
