1.you shouldnt need a moist hide, they need about 60% humidity.
2.bed a beast is great for aft’s.ive been using it for about a year, but now use dirt and a little sand so he can burrow.even better.
3.10 gallons are to small IMO. you should have the money to care for a reptile before getting one.20 gallons are great for them.
4. uth’s are ok, but defeats the purpose of going underground into a burrow to cool off and shed and hide and stuff like that.I would use a regular light for the day, or a red for the day, and red for night if it gets too cold or if you wanna see it.
5.shedding shouldn’t be that much of a problem with the right humidity. If needed, take a qtip and get it moist and sofltly rub at his feet.If you leave them on, it could constrict the feet and not allow blood flow to the toes.
6.6 crix a day is good.dust them with pure calcium 5 days a week, and with d3 twice a week, so it doesn’t develope mbd.
my fat tails name is fatty.

Why would an UTH not be good if they have a cool side where they can burrow and get away from the heat? I have my 2 girls in a 29 long and their UTH does not radiate even close to enough heat to warm the cool side. A 10 gallon IS too small. You need to get a bigger tank.

Because they go under ground to get away from heat. The light bulb above will heat enough.

Just use some saran wrap or foil for a lid.

im confused. Are you saying to use only a uth or not. if not how do i place the light on top when the suran wrap or tinfoil is on top...it will melt or burn...

im saying you dont need a uth with the bulb.use a day or red bulb during the day, and only if it gets cold you need a red one for night.
hang the fixture over the top and cover a part of the top.

Heat bulbs dry the bedding out too much. I only keep my heat lamp on for a few hours in the morning to warm the tank back up. They can go to the cool side and burrow there if they get too hot. I use an UTH so the floor of the cage will stay warm in their hides.

1. We are too here. :]
That’s fine, it may not be completely necessary, but if he likes it he’ll use it. You can also use spaghum moss for moist hides, but paper towels are good too.

2. Yes. That’s what almost everyone uses for their AFTs.

3. Mine was in a 10 gallon for a while, but once I upgraded to 20Long..he was much happier. Look for 20longs instead of just 20, because they give more floor space and that’s what AFTs need.

4. Sure is. I like the moonlight bulbs better, but that’s just my preference for what colour light is on while I’m sleeping.

5. I think you’d be able to tell if you looked, but if the humidity is high enough..it probably won’t happen.

6. As long as his tail is a good size then i wouldn’t worry. But always feed him as much as he’ll eat, the fatter the better with these guys. :]

well, then stick with the 10 gallon until you have a better lid unless you have a really good makeshift one, because they can climb out and if you have any other pets it could be the end of him.
