Leo vs AFT Hi everyone. I’ve never had reptiles before, but have been looking into getting my first lizard. I’ve decided on either a leopard gecko or an aft gecko. I’ve done lots of research and I can provide the proper care and enclosure for both lizards. So the decision maker for me will be which one is more docile and handleable. Being able to handle my pet is of huge importance to me.
So that’s my question. Which is better for handling, a leo or an aft?
Thanks ^^

Leo vs AFT I would say that they’re about the same.
Leos are more commonly owned though, so you’ll hear more about them.
Just choose by what habitat you would rather set up, cost and looks..whatever is most important to you.
Personally, I love my aft and I would choose it over a leo anyday. But if I had extra room in my house, I probably would own leos too because they’re so easy to take care of. :]

Leo vs AFT afts will tolerate more handling right off the bat.. unless the petstore has mishandled them.. in that case they are very bitey. leos tend to be more skittish and will usually run initially.. but calm down nicely.. leos tend to be cheaper and easier to find than afts.. ive noticed my leos have switched to being more active during the day whereas my afts pretty much stick to being nocturnal. i say the choice is up to you.. just make sure you choose a healthy animal.. and ask to see if you can hold it to see how aggressive it is.. neither has a super bad bite.. just be a little careful if its a large male aft.. they tend to have bigger heads and can give a hard enough bite to draw blood if they feel really threatened.
i keep both species and cant really choose between them. lol

Leo vs AFT I’ve had both....I would say if you want a more relaxed chill kind of pet go with the AFT although they require a little more work to keep their humidity up and what not. My AFT was sick when I got him and I wasn’t able to save him unfortunately. So I would go with leos personally. They are a little more full of life and faster and a little easier to care for, but over all as far as food and calcium and stuff like that go the care is the same. The main difference for care is basically the humidity...and you could talk to 10 different people and argue for days and days about substrate. I know bed a beast is preferred for AFTs and paper towels or repticarpet or tile are recommended for leos...I think the paper towel thing is easy and cheap and I love it! So...I guess it’s your personal preference....also leos have a lot more color variation with different morphs etc.. So whatever you’d like I guess! lol
