There’s a major habitat difference. Leos are from Iran (i think? desert area anyway), AFTs are from Nigeria.

There are a few differences in their actual behavior/bodies, leos have slightly better immune systems and are less shy but those aren’t hugely significant.

Leos are also bigger, with a differently shaped head (it’s longer and wider), and I think the tail proportion is longer/bigger. AFT’s need humidity, Leos do not.

skin texture is different. afts have a velvety smooth texture to them.. while leos have bumpier skin in comparison (its due to the humidity differences). afts also have different shaped head, and their tail regrowth looks very different than a leos. not to mention the color and pattern differences (even among specialty morphs). many are about the same size as leos though. my male boomer is bigger than most leos, rattie and mattie are about equal, and chubbs is smaller.
this is my male aft boomer’s fully regenerated tail


this is my female aft chubs with a regenerated tail.. its also an extremely old pic.. shes gained a lot of weight in 2 years. lol



This is stubb. shes one of my leos with a regenerated tail.


and this is tater.. my other leo with a regenerated tail


you can see a lot of differences in their bodies and tails just by looking at them.

lol.. tater’s tail is so cute.. i squish it a lot.. she just sorta looks at me all confuzzled like when i do it. it has full motion and bendiness since she lost it as a baby.
the pics also show she snout differences between afts and leos.. the more rounded aft snout is suited for burrowing and nosing into things more so than the leo ones.
