 Aaaaahhhhh! :(

i’m confused. people have told me that afts get social with a lot of gentle handling but i’ve heard your supposed to handle them as little as possible, is that true? say it ain’t so.

when you first get them you really shouldnt handle them wait maybe 2 weeks but afterwards at least in my experience with mine they can be handled well. mine likes it when i hold her and rub under her chin :D

You have to find a happy medium..I would advise against handling them every single day, but to not go too long without handling them either.
If you handle too much, it could stress the gecko out and make them feel like they don’t have any ’privacy’ or however a lizard would interpret that.
But, if you go too long without handling they can lose the comfort level with you and not want to be handled anymore.
Like..when I went on a long vacation last summer, I came back and ember did NOT want to be picked up. I got a firm grip, didn’t let go even though he thrashed, and took him out every other day. By the third day he was happy and okay with hanging out with me again.
But usually, I just take him out for about 10 minutes a week. :)

For first getting him, I would say to leave him be for two weeks and then handle for 5-10 minutes every other-2 days until he knows you well and then only a couple times a week max. :)

once they get used to you, you can...just watch for stress symptons and keep track of how much he’s eating so you’ll be able to tell if it’s stressing him out or not.
