If you handle too much, it could stress the gecko out and make them feel like they don’t have any ’privacy’ or however a lizard would interpret that. But, if you go too long without handling they can lose the comfort level with you and not want to be handled anymore. Like..when I went on a long vacation last summer, I came back and ember did NOT want to be picked up. I got a firm grip, didn’t let go even though he thrashed, and took him out every other day. By the third day he was happy and okay with hanging out with me again. But usually, I just take him out for about 10 minutes a week. :) For first getting him, I would say to leave him be for two weeks and then handle for 5-10 minutes every other-2 days until he knows you well and then only a couple times a week max. :) |
