Gila monster They are legal to own in some areas, there are a few for sale online from breeders. They are venomous, not poisonous, but technicality, and not really a valid one so who cares. They don’t inject their venom, they have a chanel in thier mouths and when they bite the chew and the venom runs into these grooves and is masticated into the wound, very primitive delivery system. I think gila’s and beadeds are related very closely which is why many shows say there is one venomous lizard, I’m not ever sure what differentiates the two, locale most likely so they may even just be subspecies of each other, a more knollegable herper may be ablt to tell you for sure though.

Gila monster i know someone who owns a gila and a beaded lizard. he keeps them in the same cage and they seem to get along well.their body structure is almost identical.the only difference i can see is the slight colored scales.the gilas are reddish orange and the beaded is yellowish.

Gila monster It’s crazy to me that someone would own a Gila monster as a pet! I am from AZ and we were taught as kids not to get NEAR them. But I must say that their coloring is beautiful. FYI I have heard that if a Gila bites they grind sideways distributing the poison. The poison kills all cells on it’s path through the body. I saw a program on Animal Planet called Venom ER. Scary stuff y’all!

Gila monster Hi Beesaboo,WOW! Someonelse that will admit to being from HELL! I too was taught as a kid not to "play with the fauna" in the desert! Though I watched a kid I knew in High School let a wild tarantula tromp around on his hand - not me! They are an awful pretty animal, but not one I would like to own - lets keep them in the desert - with the scorpions, rattlesnakes, and havalinas (wild pigs)!
