Usually if you purchase a Gila or Beaded the breeder can get you all the proper permits..Or you can get them from C.I.T.E.S.

Well depends on what your state laws are.There are alot of factors that go into getting the proper permits..In most cases when you live in a state that alows you to own venomous the breeder will get you the proper paper work in the 1000$ and up you will pay for the Gila.They are very easy to get though ,for the simple reason that Gila’s are not high on the appendix of endangerd species..

No!

Why would you need a permit to keep a tarantula? I have never heard of any law against keeping tarantulas..

You have to have one for a Gila monster and Mexican Beaded Lizard, I’m pretty sure in most states...

And you can’t get a Guatamalen Beaded Lizard, no one can..

coastal reptiles is a great website for photos but it is not completely updated on venomous laws. I cannot believe there is no restriction on gilas in colorado. wow.

They are usually covered as a venomous reptile despite their less than effective delivery. CITES permits are only going to cover you on the federal level for endagered species. Most states have their own requirements for this as well and this only covers you if the state does not have stricter regulations when considering them dangerous.

Just wait..Ohio will have a very strict ban on all venomous reptiles and many many more herps and exotic animals due to irresponsible owners.

I know in Florida in order to obtain a venomous rptile you have to have over a hundred documented hours of experience with the species of animal you attend to own.and in florida im not 100% but i think its only $50 a year

I know in Calif. you need a permit for the Reticulate Gila (Heloderma supectum suspectum) as it is considered a detrimental species, but I don’t see any other sp. listed. My question is- are these lizards so expensive because of the CITES permit?? I’ve been looking around and have not found one under $1000.
