I don’t know what it’s like in America but in the UK you need a license under the danegrous animals act... we’ve just been doing legislation at college.

I can "legally" have one in Montana, they don’t really have venomous laws here. I can also "legally" get a crocodile if I wanted to.

thats bc theyre rear fanged. they are notlike front fanged snakes which bite and inject venom, Helodermas chew their venom into their food. If you get bitten, what ull worry about first is their pit bull like jaw strength and the venom later if at all. But, they are dangerous and should be considered possible pets by only very experienced herpers.

i had one for about 3 months i found it on the side of the road here in arizona during rainny season you can find them but this one was small and skinny so me and my friend and his uncle picked it up nursed it back to health and let it go. it was a very cool lizard that if i was legal to own i would want one. we feed it pinkys when it wasnt stronge enought to move much we should use tongs and move it in front of its face and it would grab it. than once it could move on its own for more than a few steps we would give it rat pups and it was really fun to watch him them.

actually if you handle your gila monster from birth and take proper care of it, they can be quite tame and affectionate. My local pet shop manager is a herptologist and has one and its quite the playful little thing.
