 Need advice

Hello all,
I need some advice for a new bearded dragon we adopted today. I am very familiar with the care of bearded dragons because we have had 3 now for about a year. today a little girl from down the street who knows we have beardies said she was moving and needed to find a home for her BD. She told me that her mom said if she didn’t find it a home she would just have to let it go!
Being a beardie lover I told her i would take it. Well, I am probably in over my head because the poor thing is so malnourished and in obvious poor health. Upon questioning their care routine I found out they are only feeding it 12 crickets and 12 meal worms a week. No fruits or veggies! AND NO CALCIUM!
He is able to walk around although his back doesn’t look straight. I will do what I can for him but does anyone have any advice about the best way to rehabilitate him? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
DeeDee

 Need advice

I hope by now the beardie is doing better. I would take the beardie to the vet to see exactly what I was dealing with. If at all possible, get the beardie some sunshine each day. Even if it means sitting outside with him(of course, don’t let him get overheated and not if it is too cold outside). Make sure he has the proper heat and light. Start adding calcium and multi vitamin and slowly offer more food each day. Make sure the fruits/veges are cut very small. Patience is the key. Don’t try and make up for what he hasn’t had in the first week, but slowly increase the amount you offer. My guess is he didn’t have the appropriate light or heat, either. so as you rectify this situation, his appetite should increase. The vet can tell you if he has any infection or parasites. Keep him separate from your other beardies since he is a lot weaker and could be sick. Let us know how it comes out.
