Need Salt Help 
I am confused about the salt water, do all types of land hermit crabs need it? What is the ratio to water? I bought the freshwater fish salt box (yes, its for freshwater fish), its shaped like a milk carton, it looks like one of these two but I can’t quite remember exactly:
Any info on the salt would be great, thanx!

I would reccomend you buy instant ocean or some other marine salt. The freshwater salt such as doc wellfish and api (both same brand) don’t have the necesary mineral content to keep delicate sea-life alive. Its only used for brine shrimp. You’ll have to mix exactly to the directions on the box and a hydrometer would measure the salinity for you to be sure your getting the right strength.
And yes, they all do need it. Purple pinchers have been shown able to survive without, but once given it spurs a molting frenzy so it is necessary.

peps!!!!!! i need help here!!!!!!!!!!! only like 1 out of 5 of my crabs are purp. pin.!!!! hey have all lived for a long time. i don’t think that they need any. mine are all alive and well. Eddie better not die! Eddie is my only survivor besides Melon who my friend bought me (i have a total of 4 while my brother had 3), the other 3 are my brother’s. Eddie better not die!!!!!

Why is salt nessicary for hermit crabs, and if it is nessicary, how come purple pinchers can surrvive without it???
