Luv beardies, I’m afraid your hermit crabs are going to suffocate with an open top tank and heat bulb like that. They have to have at least 70% humidity at almost all times (occasional dips are ok) and I would guess your tank has about 20% humidity. Your going to want to do some research on the proper care of hermit crabs. www.hermitcrabaddiction.net/forum might be a good starting place, as well as www.crabstreetjournal.com.

Ash, my tank is a 29g tank. The dimensions are 30 inches long, 19 inches tall and 12.5 inches front to back.
I’m excited though because I just got a 55g tank for them. It needs a bit of repair, but it was free. Its 4 feet long and 16 inches tall. Its also 16 inches wide.

luv beaardies- very concered about ur habbitat. i dont see a pair of water bowls. do u have salt and fresh water for them? whats the humidity like? too low humidity causes deaht during moulting. uv lost a lot of crabs, perhaps this should tell you that ur doing somthing very wrong?
do you dechlorinate your water?
that heat lamp wont help you keep humidity in at all! it’ will dry out ur setup. plus it isn’t covered. im guessing ur humidity must be like 10% glad u dont have any anymore.

to jawsthemeswimming i do have 2 water bowls in there and in australia all the petshops said it is best you have a red HUMMIDETY globe because if you spray them every day it gets really humid in there and i do have a glass lid on it i just took it off because iwas holding 1 while taking the photo.

well i love they way you think you are wright. sorry but i find it very funny. a ’red hummidety globe’? sorry to burst ur bubble ( or globe) but there is no such thing. the petshop has grosly misinformed you.
a red heat bulb is what you have. it wont do the humidity any good. (by the way thats how you spell humidity) it will dry out the tank, not provide humidity. a hermit crab tank should be really humid. they have modified gill that allow them to breaht in humid air. too dry air will kill them. with such a big powerful heat bulb daily spraying would be needed to keep humidity levels at the minimum amount required for hermits to survive. this is the reason all your crabs have died! it’s too dry!!! humidity is a good thing, my hermits tank is at 70% humidity, which is what they need. with the amount of hermits you have lost in your awful setup you are in no place to tell me your correct! ha.

no i retract my statement about the water bowls, i really cna see another one in there, please point it out to me. plus i can tell from the picture that the samd is completely dry! not moist at all. congradulations on killing all those hermits and trying to justify it? that was the iceing on the cake!

ur rite their arent any water bowls in their oh but wats that blue thing in the corner and the white thing behind the cave y its a water bowl.look ur propaly a yank or pom or somfin but ur definetly not an ausy because down here in ausralia especially where i live we are told to have a red light in their to keep it warm and humid in their wat else do u want me to do put a heat rock in their and if u cant see da wet sand trie gettin sum glasses and look at the back of the enclosure (i’ll trie to get sum of the back) and dont trie and tell me there isnt 2 water bowls in there and theres no wet sand in there because i no there is its my enclosure and they didnt die becos of the light they died during molting and they were in a seperate enclosure during molting only 4 survived molting but i sold the 4 and gave away 3 so really only 7 died becos of molting and my set up is exactloy the same as the ones in the petshops.

wow sorry for not replying, thats for standing up for me shellbabe. hermie hero, thats very cute.
well just for the record:
i didnt say that you didnt have any water bowls, i said you had one.
hermits usually have problems moulting due to an improper enviroment, you can see were im going with that.
what you said was rasist and nasty, im atually english, so um seeing as how pritty much every aussie originates from english settler were the same dude! lol unless your a native aborigany.
you see to think that there was nothing wrong with ur setup despite losing all those hermits, if you lost that many dogs dont you thing somthing would be wrong?
this may not be your fault but that heat globe really wont help keep the viv humid and will dry it out extremely so the petshop has lied to you. and just because your setup is the same as the petshop doesnt mean that it is at all correct! in fact most petshops keep their crabs in s@{:t conditions.
you really need to acept that you are wrong. or have been mislead by the petshop.
