 My crabs update... please read

i cleaned out the tank, and unfortuantly i found one dead and another one might be. but i kinda expected at least one to be dead. he was in a painted shell all his life and never molted. (the tank does allow molting)

anyway, so Snoopy is dead and Maystone might. She hasn’t moved at all, not even pinching tighter when dipped in water and/or blown on. so May is in a like 8ish gallon iso tank.

Melon molted again and i swear he is suicial! last time he molted he almost died also. he is fine, i had him in his own little iso tank while i was cleaning and he was climbing up and falling down multiple times... so i gave up and just let him go kill himself in the 20L rather then sharing the critter keeper iso tank.

Troubles molted and is perfectly fine. he is alive and well. and it seems like he had finished molting about a week or two ago.

Ghosty, Jazzette and Ollie are completely normal. i had seen them running around before cleaning but none of the others since 3 week before today. (they dug down or hid under plants, i wasn’t really looking for them anyway, also i had been away for 2 weeks during which they could have been out and about)

while i was cleaning and everybody was hanging out together in a cramped 8 gallon critter keeper Jazzette tried pulling Melon out of his shell, but since Mel looked too fragile to i took Jazz off and Mel out.

right now--
Troubles and Jazzette are climbing around, and Troubles earned his name once again and started getting behind the climbing wall. Ollie was just climbing on the plants near the ground, while Ghosty is happy but hiding... or playing under the plants. May hasn’t moved, and i put her in a spot where i will easily notice if she moves. and then Snoopy’s dead.

so in total--
one dead, one sick/dead, one a newly (2nd time) molt, one a week old (1st time) molt, one being aa jerk, and 2 nice and happy...

i’m leaving for a week in a week and i’ll bring any sick crabs. obivously i’m going to be checking on Mel and May daily so if i notice anything bad then i’m bringing them. Ghosty and Ollie are def staying, Troubles most likely staying. and then if Jazzette gets caught on top of a crab (possible shell fight) then she is going to be seperated for everyone.

thanks for listening, i’ll get some pics up after i take them...

Aw, I’m sorry to hear that Snoopy was my fave crab on this forum from the pics and everything (Troubles or "Chevy" another person’s crab, are 2nd and 3rd)
Do you know what the cause is yet? And you said you already cleaned the tank and everything? Well that’s good
Good luck with the rest,
-Jeni

thanks. i think that, the idiot dug himself down too deep and got stuck down under some hardened sand. he wasn’t much of a digging crab.

but, i have some news... but it isn’t the good kind.

i was looking in on the crabbies and saw a very happy Melon. then i looked closer and realized that "Melon" wasn’t the pale pink he was an hour ago. that turd-faced-poop-head of a crab, Jazzette kicked Melon out! (which was retarded because the shells were the same size and Mel’s was painted! ug!)

so, luckily it turned out that Melon (the real one) was alive and somewhat well in the bush nearby. i eventully got him into the iso tank May was in and threw in some extra shells of he right size. and put may in the 20L just for the night. if she moves she stays, if she doesn’t she comes.

tomarrow i am going to my gma’s house. (i think i mentioned that, it turned out to be tomarrow!) so i am currently planning on setting up the 10 gallon tank and bringing May, Mel, and Jazz. Jazz would stay alone in the critter keeper while Mel and May shared the 10.

i’ll be in touch while at my gma’s so stay posted and keep reading.

ps, i like Chevy too! ^.^

that quickly Melon moved into one of the shells. he picked Jazzette’s old shell. but now im worried that later when they move back in with each other Jazz with want her shell back.

so Melon is coming in the 10 gal with May (so far) and Jazz in the critter keeper. actually i might just divid the critter keeper in half... no clue how yet.

ugh! WHY DID I HAVE BE STUCK WITH A BUNCH OF SUICIDAL CRABS!?!?!?!?!?!?! so now May is out of her shell (at least she’s alive) and in Mel’s iso tank. Jazzette is going to get kicked out of the 20L before i leave today. I trust Mel will be fine in the 20L without Jazzette in there and May is soooo going to stay with me.

ugh, i don’t know what to do! why did i have to leave now! ok, final plan. Mel and May together in the 10 gallon and Jazzette in the 8 gall critter keeper. i hope that no one dies while i’m gone! i wish i could bring them all! Troubles needs to switch because he can’t even hope to get his big pincher in his shell! he has 2 extra perfectly fine shells but is like the only one who won’t switch! Ghosty found a good one a long time ago and Ollie seems to like his nice little shell, and it isn’t too small so that’s fine. the retard Jazzette moved out of a great shell (just ask Mel, he loves it o.0) into a painted one. Mel is fine, just i’m afraid to leave him alone with Jazz for fear of switchers-remorse and May is currently in the coconut hut in the iso tank without a shell. (there are 4 shells in there for her).

i have seen too many crabbie-butts in the last 2 days!

so now i have a 20L, 8ish gallon critter keeper, 1/2ish gallon critter keeper in use and a 10 gallon waiting to be used.

20L-Troubles, Ollie, Ghosty, Mel
8-May
1/2-Jazz

May seems to be much more picky than Mel and hasn’t chosen a shell and Jazz is just in there to be away from Mel. (why punish Mel if Jazz was the thief and possible future crime commiter?)

when and if the 10 gallon gets set up Mel and May would go in. (if May hadn’t found a shell yet then she would go in a 1/4ish gallon critter keeper inside the big tank until she picked one) then, of course, Jazz would get the 8ish gallon.

my only concern is that the others will do rash things while i’m gone as well. i can only hope.

~~Lauren

Why not just set up the ten, and have someone watch them [you should be doing this anyways]. No need to stress crabs with travel.

because my parents aren’t the best with that kind of thing. i think that i’ll just set up the 10 and put May in there then the 8 will have Jazz and everybody will have room.

im just worried that one of them will do something stupid. (like May falling into the water dish w/out a shell and almost drowning herself)

sooooooo, i guess im going to leave them here either way there issn’t much room in the truck im taking.

it is very possible that moving the crabs from container to container so much is what is stressing them out. Recheck conditions, calibrate your guages and leave them be. The less you handle or bother crabs the better off they are.

i mean, that was all in a matter of 2 days includeing today. the one who can’t decide on a home wasn’t moved that much (just outta the 20L into the 8 while cleaning then straight back to the 20L). and same with the other 2 before they acted that way. afterwards they got moved from tank to tank to iso everyone...
