 Hermie up for adoption!

This makes me really sad, but one of my biggest hermit crabs has to go. He is a jumbo (3 in.) and needs a new home. He is a Caribean PP, and is very nice and loves to climb around. He is one of my favorites, but he is too big to keep in my 10 gallon. I am giving him away to anyone who live in the state of California. All I ask is that they pay for shipping. He really needs to go to a good home. It is either someone takes him, or he has to go live with the people in Petco. I really don’t want to have to put him in their. They take such bad care of their hermits. So if anyone is interested let me know. I will give him to people not in California oly if they are willing to pay the extra shipping. He is in a Green Turbo Shell, he is beautiful.

If anyone has the space, and can take my crab from me please do! I can’t take care of him anymore. I really don’t want to have to give him to Petco, but so far it looks like that s the only choice! I changed my mind, I will ship anwhere as long as the persn that I am shipping to will pay for shipping. I have shipped hermits succesfully before.

I suggest this place. This is much better because most other places (including animal rescues) don’t really care about hermit crabs. It will find someone in your area that wants to adopt the crab and will then contact you. Link

What size are your crabs though? If they are mediums or larger a large/jumbo won’t fit.

That is a huge generalization to make! I work with a rescue and we have and take great care of tons of hermit crabs! Anyone who brings one in can (after 1 week quarantine they go in this HUGE exo terra terrarium on the front counter with a waterfall and big pieces of reptile bark to climb on. We use salt and dechlorinated fresh water, and the owner says one of her favorite animals is crabs! We find them great homes where they will never be dumped in a shelter or given away again, and we ask that they be brought back to us if they need to be. By the way, they LOVE the vertical space! As many as can fit are on the top of the cage and climbing up the bark.

Here is a link to the cage we have for some 20-30 rescue crabs at any given time (we have the largest available one, the X-L 18x18x24). The crabs are only with us for maximum one month, anyway.

No, it isn’t. Did you make the changes in the rescue? Not one animal rescue in my town will even take in hamsters, and you think they will take hermit cabs?

Wha...? I don’t really understand what you are trying to say. Make what changes?

I work in a no kill non profit pet store/rescue (not a government facility) that happens to be set up with the knowledge and facilities to house hermit crabs. All animal shelters are full of people who love all animals. Just because your government run shelter isn’t set up to take hamsters and hermit crabs, doesn’t mean they "don’t even care about them" it means they don’t have the ability and caging to properly care for them. They have their hands full with the thousands and thousands of dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, and rats that are dumped on them every year. Please do not blame the shelter because they can’t take care of a pet that you want to dump on them!

 Hermie up for adoption!

Tara, I have decided that I don’t want to takethe risk of mailing my little hermie. I am just going to give him to a local pet store, and hope for the best. He has no where else to go, and if I move my hermies to a 20 gallon tank, I won;t be able to get a Leopard Gecko, which I have always wanted. I am just going to stick with giving him to Petco on this one. The one I go to people buy hermits all of the time, so he will find a home soon. Thank you ouys for all of the support and information!

I have, but not to Canada where it is very, very cold. I didn’t want to take the chance of it freezing. If you lived in a warmer place I would’ve shipped him to you ASAP. I have aleay gave him awaw. They are keeping him in the back of the store to check for sickness and health problems. He will be fine... I hope.

Like I said go for smalls because you can fit more in and they feel safer in larger numbers. You have 2 mediums right? That means you have room for 6 or 7 smalls.
