 Is it supposed to smell?

I have just put playsand into my hermits tank and they seem to love it way more than eco-earth, however it really smells! I have rinsed the sand and soaked it. Am I doing something wrong?

What does it smell like? Could it be the food? Play sand seems to let the rotting food smell out better then eco earth.

I have realized that it was the eggs I had in the ank, when i took hem out it smelt fine!
