I don’t think that its a good thing that they may be eating it. (it droping to the ground) But seeing how geckos and such are fine with it so should hermits. I would just take it out and stick on some of this : Link : on the back wall for climbing. |

AL- I think its fine. You like alone time don’t you? Well 2 weeks or so alone shouldn’t do too much harm to the crab. Its not like some people don’t buy just one crab... those poor souls live for a few months still. |

and about the soil... im not sure... i’d have to go with a no. possibly if you backed it and such but still, i wouldn’t risk it. go get yourself a nice 4 USD brick of Eco-Earth. that will fill a 20L up twice! And I’ve been told crabs like sand/EE mix, that’d fill a 20L 4 times! yeah its really cheap and the crabs like it. i am tempted to go over the street (to the north building of the high school where my crabs are living) sometimes and clean out the tank and make them a nice Sand/EE mix substrate to live on... and on a personal note i fell :P and i have a freaking crazy bruise all over my ankel. at one point it swelled up to look like a softball... ouch... yeah so im limping or walking with an airboot x_x |

i agree that Es and Ruggies arent very exotic but i knew what they meant... and actually my petco has Es and Straws and sometimes Ruggies... and i guess you can call WildSide a mom and pop store... its basicly a non-chain pet store with relaxed atmosphere. no uniform thingers... |

yeah um molting really depends on the crab. i think it said somewhere that the small crabs molt quicker and more often and the bigger ones take longer and do it less often. i think thats what it said... and for misting i just sparyed the entire tank all over about every 4 hours or everytime i saw them (which evers father apart usually) but really im not sure and i think it depends a lot on their habbitat (tank decor) and where you live |

Plants need to be identified by species and cross referenced for toxicity levels before adding them to a crabitat. They will also need to be prepared to be put into the tank. If the soil stuff is meant for gardening, keep it for gardening. Eco-Earth is only around five dollars per brick and is a safe substrate. Small crabs can molt within weeks, large crabs can take upto three months to complete their molt. BUY A HYGROMETER, THEY ARE CHEAP keep your humidity levels between 75 and 85%. Nuff Said. If the background material isnt a natural material and is man made (ie the exo-terra styrofoam backgrounds) I wouldnt put it in a crabitat. Crabs are not geckos. People forget too easily that there are many professionally made caresheets on the web. The webs for research, use it. |

Quote: Plants need to be identified by species and cross referenced for toxicity levels before adding them to a crabitat. They will also need to be prepared to be put into the tank. I already knew the plant that she was talking about was fine for crabs.
Quote: If the soil stuff is meant for gardening, keep it for gardening. Eco-Earth is only around five dollars per brick and is a safe substrate. yup. i totally agree.
Quote: Small crabs can molt within weeks, large crabs can take upto three months to complete their molt. Thats what the times were. yup yup :) i knew them i just was too lazy to go re-google it. its saved somewhere on my computer (not this one)
Quote: BUY A HYGROMETER, THEY ARE CHEAP keep your humidity levels between 75 and 85%. Nuff Said That seemed to come out rudely in my mind but i not know if thats what you meant. yes hygrometers will kinda tell you if you need to spray more. i was answering her question, you were telling her some somewhat-random info on a tanget.
Quote: If the background material isnt a natural material and is man made (ie the exo-terra styrofoam backgrounds) I wouldnt put it in a crabitat. Crabs are not geckos. Agreed. But isn’t Eco-Earth somewhat man made... You just can’t say to stay away from man made stuff....
Quote: People forget too easily that there are many professionally made caresheets on the web. The webs for research, use it. Yes, but isn’t this also part of the web? Couldn’t they get their info from here. I agree that they should try to look somewhere else first but really, this helps a lot.
And finally, what just kinda ticked me off... Quote: omg.... Really whats so ’omg’ about it. they got info you overall just repeated what i said. really, that was rude to me in my mind...
I do not claim to be this all-knowing one with years of experience. Im just a kid who had crabs for a year and knows about them, and gets a on computer everyday and usually that sometimes that computer blocks every good site i know leaving me with RZ unblocked... I can just give them a quick answer thats all I really claim to. And I don’t me to be rude to Froggz or anyone else. I don’t know, maybe its just because I am blasting my ears off with loud music in school and haven’t talked for about 10 hours, that Im taking things the wrong way... |

posting a quick question about a situation is one thing. Sharing pictures and experiences are another. Having a properly researched and set up crabitat with proper guages shouldnt need misting often at all. My 55 is at a constant level of 88% on one end and 76% humidity on the other. I mist once a week to wash down the vines, branches and leaves. |

Or maybe your habitat has things that hold in moisture better... Theres a lot of factors to take in... |
