 Insects in crabitat

I just found very, very small bugs crawling in my crabitat. Could someone please tell me exactly what to do to get rid of them. Where could they have come from? How much of a risk are they to the crabs? I’m afraid that they are also in my house. Is that possible? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It sounds like you have mites. I’m not sure exactly how to get rid of them but if you go to Hermit-crabs.com and look under mites it will tell you what to do. hope this helps!

Last night I sterilized and cleaned very thoroughly. I baked the new sand because it is play sand, not calci-sand. I boiled all the dishes, shells and other stuff. I also re-baked all the driftwood. Three baths each, which they did NOT like because they’ve never had one from me. Hopefully it was all enough. Did I miss anything?
When I dumped the old sand I found a few secret stashes of food. that was probably what attracted them. I will use their ISO tank for feeding anything other than the pellets.

Umm that sounds good to me you can still put pellets in their tank what they do is they bury them so I scoop the buried ones out 3 times a week.Hope this helped any.LOL

I think it will stress your crabs if you try to feed them in the ISO. Just try to take the food out if you find it in the crabitat. I don’t recommend that you feed your crabs pellets anyway. Read the ingredients in the pellets. Try to just feed fresh foods.

They get fresh food everyday, but I keep the pellets in there as well.


This is how it looks since I cleaned it out last night. Whatta ya think? Could I do anything different?
