my littlest crab pistatio has very foggy eyes..is she molting or is she blind...shes been this way for a long time...more than 3 monthes

make sure your setup for your crab is good. She may be putting off a molt, because she doen’t like where she is living. Please go to hermit-crabs.com

blaze- Although Hermit-crabs.com has helped many hermit crab owners when they first begin caring for their hermit crabs, that web site has some information that is not up to date. I believe that they say a few things that and could eventually be very harmful for your hermit crab.

Instead of Hermit-crabs.com I recommend hermitcrabassociation.com Link and their sister sites.

I just visited hermit-crabs.com and it seems that they have changed a lot since my last visit. They even now have links to the website I recommended above. Sorry about that. Please do not attack me. Last time I was on that site I found a bundle of things that I disagreed with, but I can’t remember what they were. It was a while ago. Something about feeding commercial foods, and what you could feed with them. They also were against meat which is essential in their diet.

I did find one thing that I do disagree with though.

Their method of bathing seems REALLY stressful to hermit crabs. Bathing your crabs once a week seems like torture! The reason they run around after the bath is because of stress. You should provide deep enough dishes in your crabitat for your hermit crabs to bathe themselves. This is more natural for them is defiantly less stressful. The only time you should bathe your crabs using that method is when you first receive your hermies or if your crabitat should ever be infested with mites.

Yeah, I agree. Last time I looked a Hermit-crabs.com they said FMR was THE best hermit crab food you can buy.

Ash, what did I say to make you think I was going to attack you???? I was just curious because I myself havent read the info in a while, yet I frequent the forum very often.
I agree about the bathing actually. I don’t bathe my crabs. Yet there are people who insist that it has to be done. There is someone that bathes weekly on crabstreetjournals forums too. I’m pretty postive she’s a member of hermitcrabassociation also. Its more of a thing people have to decide for themselves on.
I know Christa(hermit-crabs.com) tries to make updates to her site as the members of the forum discuss issues and work together to come to conclusions. Hermit crabs are still a work in progress to their care. Take strawberry crabs for instance, From the research I’ve done I’m beginning to belive that calcium and other mineral levels have something to do with their short lifespan in captivity. Its just a hypotheses though, and a work in progress.
I simply don’t recommend hermitcrabassociation often because for the forums you need to have an isp email address and very many people have a yahoo or hotmail account. But then even Crabstreetjournal is beginning to make that a rule also.
