Yup mealies are fine. I’d make sure they are dead though before offering because you don’t want them escaping and reproducing in your tank.

Since I feed them to my toad, I use tweezers and snip on the mouthparts of the mealies. Well sometimes I snip too much and the mealie ends up dying in which case it goes to my hermits. Other than that I’m not sure how to kill a mealie.

My saltwater hermit crabs don’t eat mealworms!

Well they are not talking about saltwater hermit crabs, okay?

Mealworms are perfectly fine to feed live. All those rumors about mealworms chewing through lizards was false. And boy do I want to smack the person who started it!lol But since mealworms love to bury under substrate, it’s best to pinch their heads with tweezers or something to kill them.

Lizards that can chew are fine with mealies Em, but I personally HAVE had a mealie eat his way out of a grey treefrog once. I had only given him one, and in the morning he was dead with a hole in his side and the mealworm was tooling around the tank. So it can happen with toads and frogs that don’t chew their food. Lizards chew so they don’t have as much of a problem, but with my toad and african clawed frog I always pinch the head and mouthparts to destroy them before feeding.

Its alright hun. I can understand it with lizards, but it is not the same for frogs and toads. Mealies give me the creeps.
