 Just some questions

I have a 50 gal tank and i was wondering how many hermit crabs i could house in it. And for the salt water what kind of salt do i get? and do all hermit crabs need salt water? What is the best kind of food to feed them? do they pinch alot? and do they make loving pets? Last thing are they really hard to care for?
Thanks a lot

 Just some questions

I’ve heard of up to twenty small to mediums housed in a 55g. Saltwater-you have to get a marine aquarium salt mix and mix it just as you would if you were setting up a saltwater tank. All species need it. Purple pinchers are reputed to not need it, or not need it as much but it has striking differences in their molts when they havent had it for a long time and finally receive.Epicurean’s FAQ is where your going to want to direct all of your food questions and the link provided will take you to the faq where you can find an awesome safe food list, and lists of things to watch out for.

It depends on the crab if it pinches, yes, it does hurt. Pretty much like cutting yourself with scizzors. Mine don’t pinch much but other people have ones that do. Its all in how you handle them I guess. They arent exactly hard to take care of, but you need to be precarious about their conditions as far as the humidity, heat, lighting, substrate, waters and providing a balanced diet of animal and plant protiens, sugars and carotenids. Do let me warn you though, the initial cost of starting up a tank that size can get pretty pricey. There are alot of ways to bypass and save alot of money though. We’ll get into that later lol.

I really don’t belive you can call a hermit crab a loving pet. They would prefer you to leave them alone except for refilling their food and waters, making sure the humidity and temp are acceptable and thats about it lol. It is very rare that you’ll find a "personable" crab that likes attention.
