Feeding eastern hogs Where do you get the frogs to feed them year round? Alot of people stay away from Easterns because of the hard time requiring the food for them.

Feeding eastern hogs magic-no really-i used to catch em back in the day-(when i was like 12)(bout 20 years ago)i just got back into herping/herps-ive been catching toads and frogs lately-but i thinking about buying some toads on-line-i think id save a lot in gas/time and give the frogs/toads a break-(around here)i live near some pretty good wetlands-so its really not a problem getting them-there are laws though-tired of collecting toads every feeding-green frogs dont matter-

Feeding eastern hogs I’ve seen advertisements on Kingsnake for frozen spadefoots. Not sure if the difference in toxins poses a threat or not though. Same question about African claweds, which would be a great option if safe. You could buy the little dwarf ones in the Walmart fish section, then move up to adults as they grow. They’re clean, too, generally captive-bred and fed on dried foods, but I don’t specifically know that they’re safe. Might be worth doing a little site-hopping and asking around though.

Feeding eastern hogs yeah -they have live spades too-i dont know if im allowed to have em though-(endangered in ohio) ill need to call columbus tomorrow(5 times) and get five different answers-id rather feed em live-its pretty cool to watch em "hunt"-i just e-mailed someone tonight about the spades-they also have oak toads-wich would be another possibility-id rather bring in a native species though incase some get loose-ya never know-

Feeding eastern hogs Hey, one option kind of got lost in my tired late night brain jumble. I meant to mention firebellies too, hence the "I’m not sure of the toxins would be a problem.." obviously a spadefoot is edible!
Another option is loading up on eggs or tadpoles, rather than toadlets. Or just switch to f/t pinkies and move up to rat pinks after that. If understand correctly, the health problem easterns have with mouse diets is more from the hair than anything else.

Feeding eastern hogs on the mice/rats-its the fat content-its really bad on them-toads and frogs dont have near the fat as mice/rats-anyway-like i said-i called odnr about a half hour ago about bringing in spadefoots-and not one person(talked to 5) could give me an answer-someone is supposed to call back tomorrow-we’ll see if they can help-id rather feed toads/frogs anyway-its best for the hogs-i have about 30 green frogs i caught yesterday-thats why i was trying to get em on them-i can keep em alive all winter-with the toads im only supposed to be in posession of four-so that puts a krink in feedin them strictly toads-they sell oaks too-but like i said id rather feed natives of ohio-in case some got loose-

Feeding eastern hogs dude im in cincinnati and i just go out and grab leopard frogs, common toads, and the green tree frog bit is somthing that ive used if i run out in the winter, i like to mix up the diets of my hogs, ive even had success with grey tree frogs!, but by far the basic rana frogs (leopard frogs in my case) are the overwellmin favorites! even my tricolors eat them...
