Quick shed question hey everyone, i’ve looked everywhere for an answer for this but anyways, my 5 month old western hognose had cloudy eyes about a few days ago. The day after i noticed his eyes were back to normal. I figured he had a successful shed and fed him two pinkies. A day after that i was looking at him and it occurred to me that it looked like just his head shed since his eyes were back to normal. His skin is dull and is no way as bright as my female hognose and I can tell certain spots where the skin is starting to come off. From the day his eyes are cloudy, how long does it take for a normal complete shed? Is it normal for him to eat in the middle of a shed? If the eyecaps have came off is it okay to handle the snake since it can see what is going on? Anyways, i’d really appreciate it if anyone had any advice to offer, thanks.

Quick shed question The eyes always clear up before the shed. Once they’re clear, the skin is usually off in about a week on mine, who’s just over a year old. Mine usually eats fine during that in-between period. In fact, she just did today. If a snake doesn’t choose to eat before shedding, it’s nothing to be alarmed about, but many will, and there’s no need to make them wait.
If you’re getting incomplete sheds I’d be a little worried about that though. Once the food settles in a couple days you might wan tto start giving him very shallow baths in an enclosed container. Just let him sit for a half hour or so and let the water and humidity do its thing. it isn’t anything to make a big deal out of and annoy him more than necessary, but if you get a series of bad sheds in a row then the problem can snowball, so it’s best to get him back on track early.
