 Quick Question, Please reply

I am trying some new tips for my western hoggnose, so that he will eat better. I currently have him in a 10 gallon tank, but I think that it might need to be a little biger. I have a 20 gallon rubbermaid tank, I made myself with all the right ventalation and needs. Do you think that It will be fine to get his set up in the rubbermaid tank or not?? Please HELP. Thanks

 Quick Question, Please reply

This answers something I asked in the other post.
The only thing about Rubbermaids that make me nervous when it comes to snakes is the escape factor. If your confident it will hold a snake, then I’d say use it. If you’re not sure, make it so you’re sure. Bungee cords, or weighted planks around the rims, or whatever it takes. A ten isn’t necessarily too small if it’s set up right, but more floor space is always better, becaue it gives you more control over temperature range. You can do a lot with a ten if your willing to "waste" large amounts of substrate, but a few inches on a bigger floor will go a longer way than on a smaller one. Make it deeper around the warm area though, so he can make whatever web of tunnels he feels appropriate there.
Does it have a clear top? Or at least very translucent? If not, I’d say solder a line of holes to allow full use of a strip light, because even though they spend most of their time underground they peek up often enough to be very day/night conscious. If used right tubs are usually a far better option than tanks are for small ground-dwelling snakes. I used to hate them and think people were only using them to be cheapskates, but animals themselves are not insulted by an inexpensive cage. They like the increased floor space and are often much more comfortable under the lower top. I vote go for it.
