 Cage size question

Which sex and species are you thinking about?
Also, how deep you’re planning to make the substrate matters. It’s certainly the only use of vertical space that mine makes.

 Cage size question

probably a male Western hognose, the substraite would be eco-earth (coconut fiber) with some live plants (the plants aren’t mandatory) any advice is welcome.

 Cage size question

Usually the minimum would be a ten gallon, but if you get a baby you don’t know if he’s going to get bigger than average or not, so it’s worth getting a fifteen anyway. You’ll actually see them stretched out fairly often. Plus, you can have slightly shallower substrate, and it’d easier to do a thermal gradient with a little more length. My female was smaller than an adult male when I got her, and she used every inch of a ten gallon.
