 Thinking about getting a hognose

Alright, cool, that’s good to hear about Bebe, and thanks again for such informative advice. I’d imagine this’ll be one of the best threads for anyone interested in a western hognose to check out by the time I get mine, haha.

Hognose snakes might try all they want to look big and scary, but they have that cute face working against them :)

You had mentioned Carefresh earlier, but yeah, I’d be happy to get the Healthy Pet brand instead. I think I read somewhere else that someone thought that Carefresh was a little too dry for their tastes and a little too dusty, but that they were worried aspen shavings would hurt the snake, since they hurt themselves on it, so they went with Healthy Pet. But that was on a UK forum, so I wasn’t sure if it was something you could only get in Europe.
I’ll be sure to make sure the substrate is deep enough for some cool tunnels too.

I’ll try getting some kind of stone or brick to support the water dish. Something flat.
Is a humid hide a good idea? I’m guessing that’s what the sphagnum would be about. Correct me if I’m wrong though. I’ll have to look into that. And if I had one of those in the cage, would it be good to have both a humid hide and a regular one?

I never even considered getting feeders at a reptile expo, haha, that sounds great. Shipping can be rather pricy with all that. I’ve never had a situation where I’ve wanted to feed live rodents to a reptile, so I wouldn’t be concerned about that. Thanks for the tips about what to ask beforehand. I probably wouldn’t have thought about asking about the substrate. And setting up the cage beforehand should be no problem.
