 Hate those light clamps?

Here is something I built this weekend. Not perfect, but it does serve the purpose. Anyone else ever tackle this prolem?

That’s nifty. Is it laterally stable? What holds it from tipping if bumped?

For normal bulbs I’m just using for heat, I just use aquarium screen lids and lay the light across it. That’s about as stable as can be. I’m always afraid since I had a clamp light fall in once and before I found it, the sand was so hot that it blistered my finger when I picked it up. That could kill a HL and I’m glad the light didn’t land on top of one.

For UVB mercury vapors, I use large wooden dowel rod screwed to the wall with brackets. The fixture is just clamped to the large dowel to hang straight over.

Right now nothing but gription holds it in place. It needs to be stabilized. I’ve got a few ideas for this.

The dowel solution is good if you don’t mind mounting to the wall. That’s another good way to go.

Version 2.0

This is much sleeker and smaller diameter pipe with a clamp mechanism.
Seems to work pretty well.
