I recommend you have some successful herp experience, and studying, well before trying one of these. You should also factor in $10-$20 week for ants if you are going to have one. |

No offense, but 1 year experience is really not much experience at all! Successful herp experience is best measured in a decade or more. As a point of fact on Horned Lizards, I will tell you that the Montreal zoo killed 3 of them last year, and those are the "easy" species they killed too. Their direct quote to me was that Horned Lizards are "far too sensitive" to be kept in the pet trade. I also have a yahoo group which the director of herpetology for the Nashville zoo just joined. She tells me she has shied away from keeping them for years because they are too difficult in captivity, but one was found dumped in the mail and they had to take it. There is a reason these experienced herpetologist are cautious of them and giving these warnings. In my opinion I don’t think you should try them until you have had 3-5 or more years experience with herps, minimum ( lizard experience is best ). And when I say "successful experience", I mean you have been able to keep a herp alive for at least 3-5 years. If you are interested in learning as much as you can though, you can check my profile for my yahoo group website and join there too. There you can download a lot of stuff to read, including my new care manual. |

Leo’s are a hardy lizard. My wife has had hers for 10 years and they never seem ill. The Beardies are good once they grow up a bit. But when they are young, they are fragile. I suggest you look at http://anapsid.org/bearded.html and http://beardeddragon.org for some good info on them. |
