I know you can keep ants in frig. for horned toad, but is it ok to leave 500 of them in a pill bottle that they were shipped in? Also, 45% is the right frig temp correct? I bought plastic container and I have sand, should I put ants in sand in frig? thank you for your help....

They don’t have to stay in the frig. If u use a 10 gal fish tank with sand (about 1/4 inch in bottom) they will last longer. just use a spray bottle to keep the sand moist. they need water and feed them some lettuce or other vegetables. just a little at a time. they can go for a while without food but not water. a water dish will drown the ants. take a paint brsuh and paint about a 1 inch strip of vegetable oil around the top of the tank. They don’t climb well on glass or plastic.
