 How High can horses jump?

Hi im a horse fan i ride 3 times a week i jump often and still dont no how high an origanal horse can jump.Please help me?

my god, you guys have got to be kidding.

all depends on the individual horse. In the far upper levels of show jumping, talking nationals, they’re jumping around six foot fences. That’s taller then the horse is. Your average horse? Jumps however high it wants too.. I’d say most have the natural ability to jump close to four foot if they needed to, that’s not to say they will with a rider on, or that they could do it safely or look good in the meantime.

ive had 14.2 ponies jump 5’7 and 17hh jump no more than 2 feet i myself have managed 5’11 but on a grade A jumper altho height does play some role in it anyone who tells you that you can tell by height or thighs or any other means than by just seeing how high your horse can go is full of what the cow left in the gap it all up to the individual horses courage and ability

I had a buckskin pony (about 13.3-- 13.4hands) jump a 4.5 foot fence at a stand still once. We had to chase that darn bugger all over to catch him. He was an escape artist. LOL. Now please note this was unsaddled and in a field.

I believe the record was just over 7 feet.

The highest I’ve ever jumped was 4 feet. That was on a male thoroughbred, also I’ve jumped 4 feet on a 2 year old female thouroughbred.

I’ve found that the male horses tend to jump alot better.

Sade is 100% correct. It depends on the horse. My filly jumped our fence (over four feet) when she was under 14 hands! Yet I had a hard time convincing my 17 hand Belgian mare to jump a log that couldn’t have been more than one foot high and one foot across. But now she loves it, and would jump the moon if I asked. The largest jump my instructor ever went over in her show days was three feet high and four feet across. I say, ’no thank you’ (at least not right now)!

Can any-one remember Stroller? little pony with big heart,he was 14.2hh and won olympics by clearing a 6ft fence...i have seen many 12.2 - 13.2hh ponies flying over jumps they should have wings lol.Size of pony/horse means nothing when it comes to jumping.

HERE we go.Just got this off net.Sorry it was 6FT 10 FENCE what a brave pony:)

In 1935 at the International Horse Show, Olympia, London, the 15 hand overgrown Connemara gelding, THE NUGGET, became a legendary show jumper. At age 22,he cleared a 7’ 2" jump and subsequently won over 300 prizes internationally, earning over 4,500 pounds sterling in prize money.

At Madison Square Garden, New York, in 1939, the 13.2 hand Connemara, LITTLESQUIRE, won the Open Championship by clearing fences of seven feet. The American Press dubbed him "the littlest horse with the biggest heart."

DUNDRUM, Tommy Wade’s 15 hand Connemara gelding, became Supreme Champion at the Wembley Horse of the Year Show when he set a record by clearing a 7’ 2" puissance wall. In 1961, he was regarded as show jumper of the century when he won five major events at the Dublin Horse Show. It was the first time in history that so many awards were won by the same rider, let alone the same horse! He was the International Jumping Champion from 1959 to 1963.

STROLLER, a 14.1+ Connemara half-bred became the only pony to have ever competed in an Olympic Games. He was a member of the British Team competing in the 1968 Olympics in Mexico, ridden by Marion Coakes. Bill Steinkraus and SNOWBOUND won the Gold Medal while Marion and STROLLER won the Individual Silver Medal, only four points behind Steinkraus. He was one of only two horses to jump a clear round in the entire 1968 Olympics, clearing a puissance fence of 6’ 10".

Thats amazing. And we’re in awe when large horses clear these heights...hmm, I guess it would funny to watch, such mighty little horses jumping taller than most people. Perfect proof that size or, breed for that matter, is of no relevance. Think about how it feel to be the riders on them! Such a small horse beneath them at such a height!
