 My Iggy Salad (MY VERSION)

I know some of you have a problem with MK’s iggys salad,I did to, Mine wouldn’t even touch it. Until I made my own version of it.
This is what I do:

Green Beans: Chop up in a blender
Parsnips & Squash: Shredded fine in a food processor or use a food grater.

Alfalfa: I use fresh alfalfa because I have horses, but what you can do with the rabbit pellets is put them in a blender and make a powder out of them.

Fruit:Well I just put the fruit on the side or on top of the salad b/c mine don’t like fruit ( I have weird Iggys) I tried to mix the raspberries in the salad and it looked GROSS. I wouldn’t eat it either if it were the last thing on earth to eat. so I don’t put the fruit in the salad.

I mix all the veggie together after they are chopped & shredded and add the alfalfa.

Then I put it in a food saver bag, and then I roll it into a loaf and vacuum pack it, you can use a zip lock freezer bag too and roll all the air out of it. Put it in the freezer. Then when I need some I just bring out the loaf and cut a chunk of it off and put it in a bowl with folded paper towels to soak up the moisture and pop it in the microwave on defrost. I defrost enough for about three days. I like them to have fresh food. I keep this in the refrigerator.

Ready to feed. I cut up some greens (collard greens) in their bowls

Add some salad & fruit and feed, mine will eat a bowl in the late morning and early afternoon, they are little pigs.

I hope this helps anyone who is having trouble with MK’s salad.....

that is almost exactly what mine looks like. it all depends on what i put in it but thats about it.

also i have an idea..maybe some of you wont agree with it because you are overly causious but i put in about a half of a bag of welchs dried mixed fruit...it stays in tact without getting all nasty they have about 3 different kinds. like i said i think that its welchs...its about 250 or so but they like it ok so i get it sometimes

That fine to use dried fruit just make sure you rehydrate it before feeding it, you can soak them in like apple juice, prune juice etc....I hate the frozen fruit they get too mushy, but like I said before mine won’t eat fruit.... I put a few raspberry on top and they eat all round it so the only thing left in the dish is a little bit of salad with a raspberry on top, so funny to see...

That is prety much how my daughter fixes Eisa’s salads, he was very picky when we first got him. First greens-about 2 kinds- hand shredded then sliced veggies on top-2-3 kinds shredded into a tupperware bowl. He only eats fruits if we slice them and hand feed to him. Yeah, the veggies look gross but hey, however they will eat it right?

Annie, why do you put it all in a food prossessor? is it so that they will eat the stuff they don’t like?
I hand chop all of the ingredients. when new people see me chopping up the food they are always so impressed like I’m martha stewart or something then they see me bring the great looking salad to my iggy and they always get the same look like "WHAT!" hahaha.
hope you and your gang are doing good!

You know I wouldn’t, but their are people out there that do use them. I don’t like them because they dehydrate your animal and they also have a lot of preservatives in them, I like to keep it all natural & fresh.

Your iggy needs the protein when they are young and alfalfa has the most protein.

You can use fresh alfalfa hay, I have horses so I have access to alfalfa, I just use the alfalfa leaves not the stems. But it is real easy to just get some rabbit pellets and put them in a blender and make powder out of them.

Hi all,

How important is it to feed them alfalfa? I guess I should run out and get it and start feeding it to Sam. Ugh..I wish I had seen emphasis on the alfalfa sooner then now. Also, is it okay to mix the greens and the veggies and give to them like that. Sam is very active and has a good appetite. I am currently feeding her collards (bad season for them right now though) and dandelion though I do have some chicory and escarole right now (not usually what I feed her) and mixed alittle with the dandelion. Butternut squash she loves. Acorn she is "eh" with. She does not like green beans or parsnip at all. Today I shredded some yuca (reintroduced that after a long time) and chayote for the first time. She seemed to like both. She loves watermelon. Am I doing harm by giving her a one inch piece (apprx total amt) pretty much daily?? My son says I am harming her by doing so. I was giving her a few organic blueberries in the morning for a while but she lost taste for those. She is not crazy about mango and does not like fig at all :)

OK sorry to be so winded here

Thanks
Hugs,
Tone~

Giving her the watermelon doesn’t hurt, there is just no nutritional value to it, but for a treat it doesn’t hurt, it’s mainly water...

Yes you can feed them together I just don’t freeze the collard leaves, tried it one time, they become very rubbery and tough.
You might also try shredding the parsnips really fine and chop up the green beans in the blender or processor really small, that way everything kinda sticks together and they have no choice but to eat it, it’s too hard for them to pick through it.

Thankyou pokochu :) The watermelon is such a tiny amount that I am giving her. If I thought for a second it was doing her any harm, I would stop immediately. I will try again with the green beans and parsnip as you suggest. I grated the yucca, chayote and butternut today so it was kinda meshed together and maybe that is why she did not protest. The weather here is so wacky and she is so intuned with it too. I was worried about her yesterday and this morning but she is fine..thank G!
Should I go and see if I can find her some alfalfa tomorrow?

Thanks so much again:)
