 Getting Iggy

Ok. So maybe, maybe I might get an iguana if my dad says its ok. I want a medium sized one, so what species would be best? and about how big does that species get. Ive looked into blue diamonds or greens, but I’m still not sure. I want to make/buy an enclosure that will last his entire life, what do the specs of that need to be. I hear 6x5x5 but if i can go smaller, that would be better for me, since ill let him free roam a lot. Thanks in advance. I normally just keep whites tree frogs but im venturing into the macho men.

Green and "Blue Diamond" iguanas are the same species.
Some retailers call them Blue Diamonds to make them sound more "cool" to innocent buyers.
In my humble opinion...I feel that if you can’t answer those questions you should do alot more research before purchasing an iguana.

But blue diamond iggs and green igs are the same, the blue will fade with age, the only true blue iguana there is is the Cayman Blue Iguana.

Well, there really isn’t such think as a medium iguana. They get to be 4-6 feet long on average. And they grow fast. So your idea of a home is actually too small. The length should be 1.5 times the length of an iguana, at least and the height has to be the lenght of your iguana or more, since they are only happy climbing. So, you can’t go smaller. And I wouldn’t plan on allowing your iguana to free roam until you know your iguana. Some iguanas just can’t free roam.

A iguana who does free roam has to be under contant supervision, much like a toddler. They are in to everything and can be distructive.

Here is a link, see if you are ready to own an iguana: Link

There is not one care sheet for an iguana. You’ll need to do a lot of reading if this is something you are serious about. If you do want a smaller lizard, I’d go with something like a bearded dragon.

Take care,
Amanda
