Message To: Mentalchild In reference to Message Id: 162511 is a silent thing hey, I am sooo sorry for your loss! But an iguana is NOT and I repeat NOT easier to care for than a baby beardie! They need cages that are as big as half of a bedroom, they get up to 6 feet long and will get aggressive as an adult for a few months each year. If you think a baby dragon is hard to care for, maybe it’s not time for you to get an ig yet. Sorry to say that, but I can’t get one either because of certain reasons as well. ~Christie 10/15/04 6:10pm #162548

Message To: LeOTheLizzard In reference to Message Id: 162548 is a silent thing Ive had an iguana before. Since I live on a base, its harder for me to get to town to get crickets, So in feeding reasons, it will be easier for me. 10/15/04 6:30pm #162567

Message To: Mentalchild In reference to Message Id: 162556 is a silent thing Before? What happend to it? Just because they don’t eat crickets does NOT mean you should get it instead of a beardie It’s really too bad about drake, but igs need SOOO much! Do you have a spare bedroom handy? Can you build an 8 foot tall cage for it? Are you prepared to have a 6 foot lizard charging at you when it’s angry! I’ve heard of horrible things happening to people, part of a nose being bit off, severly scratched and tail whipped! Don’t get one unless you do the research and you KNOW you can care for it for it’s whole life.I’m sorry if I am sounding mean and discouraging, but please believe me when I say it’s so much work and if you think a bearded dragon is hard work, you don’t know what you’re getting yourself into. Do the research ~Christie 10/15/04 6:35pm #162571

Message To: Sandy_is_My_Beardie In reference to Message Id: 162571 is a silent thing Wow you really don’t like iguanas. I have one and i know he will get to be 6 ft long (my boas are going to be at least 8 :D) Just so you know they can be trained, it takes a lot but it can happen and igs can be really cool once they calm down a bit. i say if you got the time and the room go for it. 10/15/04 6:58pm #162617

Message To: Rebecca In reference to Message Id: 162586 is a silent thing i agree fully with FutureVet. there is no way an iguana is easier to take care of than a little beardie. iguanas can be tamed, but they are still much, much more aggressive than a bearded dragon. they require much more food than a BD as a juvinile/adult. a very large percentage of iguanas that are lucky enough to make it to adulthood are given to iggy rescues and zoos. as a matter of fact, Xta is the only person i know who has had an iguana since it was a baby (i am pretty sure she’s had Sleestack that long). My uncle did iggy rescue for a while, and he recieved 2 full grown adults. the female died at age 13, and after that, the male became extremely aggressive and attacked my aunt, uncle, and their springer spaniel. i wouldnt reccommend one. 10/15/04 7:43pm #162654

Message To: GimliMakaio In reference to Message Id: 162617 is a silent thing ok, you guys act like i dont know what im doing. I know your trying to help me and all, but calm down a lil.My other iguana went to my sister when she moved. Its to hard for me to feed crickets.Vegeis and greens are alot easier for me to feed and alot easier to get ahold of.I dont see how you can all just jump to conclusions about things.I know there violent and sutch.I would never get an animal without research.Plus Ive had one! *Ashly* 10/15/04 8:32pm #162677

Message To: Mentalchild In reference to Message Id: 162654 is a silent thing Ashly, I am very sorry for your loss. Getting an iguana is not your answer. If you did not keep your last iguana, I wouldn’t consider that much experience. Why didn’t you keep your last iguana? You need to be honest with yourself. We don’t usually give away the pets we treasure most. Iguanas usually are dumped because they are too much work, aren’t friendly enough, scratch and bite, are too big, cost too much to feed, need a huge cage that doesn’t fit anywhere, are very messy when they poopy paint themselves and their huge cage, and can be very dangerous during breeding season. The iguana forum isn’t very busy YET two posts of people needing to get rid of their iguanas were written just this week. And anyone who has one and says they make a good pet (hasn’t had it long enough). I love iguanas but easy they are not. The veggie thing is about the ONLY easy thing about them...but most people cannot even seem to find the proper veggies (a good variety). I’ll get off my soapbox now. I’ve said my piece. You’ll get one anyway I’m sure but I wouldn’t feel right if I didn’t try to change your mind. So if you do get one, please adopt. There are so many that need homes. And if there are so many that need homes, why do I discourage people you might ask? Because most people will just dump them again. They need forever homes... 10/15/04 8:52pm #162683

Message To: Mentalchild In reference to Message Id: 162677 is a silent thing a few points that came to my mind. You say you cannot go and get crickets often. I say order them online 500, or 1000, and then house them in a 10-20gallon aquarium. You will only need to order them once a month. I also wanna know how you lil one died? You may also wanna look at a uromastx. They too are vegetarians, and only get up to 18in, and are easier to care for than iggies, and are easier to tame. 10/15/04 8:54pm #162692

Message To: Bones In reference to Message Id: 162683 is a silent thing Drake died of a sickness before i could get him to the vet.The reason i gave my iguana because between me and my sister, we loved him dearly.I felt bad because my sister had no animals when she moved out and she really love Zoey.I know what im doing with these animals.SO many people told me beardies are hard to take care of, all lizards are hard if you ask me.I have an empty room.IM READY FOR THIS!please, people, you can trust me.I cant have crickets shipped to me any ways because i live on a base.So cricket eating animals are to hard to feed. 10/15/04 9:04pm #162709

Message To: Mentalchild In reference to Message Id: 162692 is a silent thing Thanks for not being defensive. Look into a recycled/rescue iguana. You can get various ages and sometimes find out their sex or personality ahead of time (depending on the age). I will always be willing to help if you need any with your iguana. 10/15/04 9:17pm #162719

Message To: Mentalchild In reference to Message Id: 162719 is a silent thing I definately would not give up on beardies though.... to me they are the most wonderful critters...and there are alternatives to crickets.... silkworms for instance... both can be shipped to you very cheaply. When I had my scare on if Zoey would live or not... I knew if she didnt make it.. I would never buy from a pet store nor would I buy such a young one... I would get one that was already 5-6 months... and from a breeder... they seem to be much hardier.. Im also very sorry for you loss.. its hard when we lose people/pets that we cherish so much. Dont rush into a decision.. take time to grieve for your loss... and in time... the right answer will come to you :) 10/15/04 9:54pm #162785

Message To: Mentalchild In reference to Message Id: 162511 is a silent thing OMG you think a green iguana is easier to care for then a bearded dragon? HA I’m sorry to be ude but your kidding right? just because iguanas dont eat crickets, worms, roches or anything alive it doesnt mean there eay to care for...they get HUGE and I mean HUGE 5/6/7 feet long with there tail...they are aggressive for up to three months every year during there breeding season...they start gettting aggressive when they are 2/3 years old...they will bite unprovoked...they need MANY different kinds of fruits, veggies, and greens these can add up in price and greens will go rotten before you use them all mainly with babys...this adds up as you CAN’T feed them spoiled food, they CAN’t be fed pellet only diets...they don’t drink much water and get there water from teh food they eat and they can’t do this with pelleted diets.....they need daily calcium supplments and once weekly multi vitamin supplments, they need daily/weekly baths...they need a HUGE cage at lest 6x6x2 a small bed room would be perfect for ONE, they live 10-15+years with the proper care...they need fecal tests just like any reptile and need to be understood...there any WAY to many iguanas in humane societys & other rescues now...there are TOO many mistreated iguanas and abondoned iguanas.....PLEASE, please please think it through better before getting one...they are MUCH harder to care for them bearded dragons and there claws, teeth & tails can cut you open VERY easily and someone on the iguana forum posted about this one person getting there finger bitten off while bathing an adult! go to http:///www.greenigsociety.org and read throguh EVERY single page and then come back and tell everyone if you STILL want one....I happen to own two 6/7 month old iguanas and they are ALREADY a handful and there just under two feet with there tails so "look before you leap"....if you have any sepiffic questions please feel free to priavate message me......again I am not wanting to be rude...please dont be mad at me but I just had to step in and say something FAST.
