 Parazap results

Sleestack’s Parazap results...

I took a fresh fecal sample to the vet 2 weeks ago...he had Giardia and Trichmonads. I treated with Parazap tea for 2 weeks and took a fresh sample in today. He no longer had Giardia but he still had Trichmonads and now he also has Balantidium! I realize parazap may only work for pinworms or similar. It certainly is not effective for everything judging from these results.

My iguana has had no contact with his feces or any other animal’s feces in this time (he is potty trained..and he gets a shower afterwards). The only explanation for these organisms seems to be that they exist naturally in his gut or he is getting them from his veggies. I wish we had more knowledge of the reptile gut bacteria. Vets always say the same thing....these could be part of his natural bacteria, but if the numbers are too high, we get concerned. They always leave it as ambiguous...you can treat it if you want, but you don’t have to. That drives me crazy! I do know my vet is good though so...whaddyagonna do?

I may treat him with drugs now.

 Re: Parazap results

I’ve treated my Iguana with Droncit for worms, and panacur for other worms. He gained 4 lbs 2 months during/after medicating.

Giardia(protozoa) was not removed from my iguana, hence the reason I’m treating with Flagyl. From what I read it can be in your drinking water, but I will guess that it would be more from the vegetables. Maybe we’ll have to start steaming or boiling them. Also I have to note that I did not use the tea method for para zap. I just sprinkled some on his food every day for a few days, then repeated the next month.

There definately is not enough research done on Iguanas and other reptiles. We really only get the research on stuff that the reptile market can make money off of. Sad but true. If the research does not come out the way they want it to...they dont use it.

I heard the same lines..."you can treat it, but you dont have to."

My nieghbor is finally learning the reptile part of the vetanarian practice. He should do well, he knows alot for not really working with them. I’m hoping to get him to do a chat here once he gains some more experience.

My vet made some medicine in his office and

gave to me to give to all my iguanas.According to him that medicine will kill all the worms and parasites they may have.Do you think its possible that only one medicine will kill all the worms and parasites at the same time??

Re: My vet made some medicine in his office and

Well, if there are certain common parasites in your local area, they may all be in the same "family" and therefore treated by one medicine. Or your vet may have made up a special recipe that actually contains several different meds. Anyhow, I hope it works.

Giardia is a very common plague in the water of my mother’s hometown, Scranton. Every summer folks have to boil their drinking water or buy bottled. I’ve never even heard of Balantidium. I looked it up and it’s a protozoan, meaning it’s water-borne and probably not something Parazap would even touch. In humans tetracycline is the first drug of choice, but Flagyl and Diquinol are being used as "investigational" meds, meaning they haven’t been submitted to the FDA as being tested specifically on balantidium.

xta, do you use tap water when washing Sleestack’s salad ingredients? Maybe you should try boiling the wash water and see if that cuts down on parasites. I always use some of the water left over in my tea kettle to wash my salad stuff and thus far *knocking on wood* my herps haven’t caught any protozoans. Water filtration in municipal systems isn’t very effective in removing protozoans but boiling does them in. You can also bring a cup of your tap water to your vet so he can see if the little critters are in there.

Re: My vet made some medicine in his office and

I agree with eyespy... Your vet probably made a combo. Panacur is for pin and round worms, and posibly some tape. Droncit is for tape worm, but I dont know if it comes in liquid. I used a pill. Flagyl(Metronidazole) is for parasites such as protazoas. Panacur is the same medication they use for horses and can be bought in equine and/or some petshops and is pretty safe. I think you can overdose a 1000 times with no problems. Flagyl you have to get from a vet or you can find them in petshops under anti-biotics or Metronidazole in caplet or pill form. Its commonly used like this for fish. I never used it.

Which brings me to question...In the past I had flagyl and it was chalky white. This time I have flagyl and its bright yellow...Anybody ever seen flagyl like this?

be cool

ps...how do you like the "site annoncement" part?

 Kenya has giardia too.

At least thats what the VET said.He gave her his combo and she was so docile at the vets office he could not believe. She is always so tame and docile sometimes I think she is sick. She is so funny...wherever I put her she stays.Like a very well behaved child." Be quiet Kenya, stay here!!" I say to her (in Portuguese of course) and she ...obeys!!
Then the doctor gave me a syringue and a bottle of combo. The syringue is to help me to put the medicine inside my igs mouth.Ive already did that with Shena (or Sherman?) and with Thorn.I still have to do it with TREX and Godzilla. Im not afraid to do that with TREX.That ig adores me!!He is the most tame after Kenya. But I dont feel very relaxed when I think I have to do that with Godzilla. He is in his breeding season and ...well, you guys understand what I mean..
How do you give de-worms to your igs??Direct to the mouths with the help of a syringue?Flavia

 Re: Kenya has giardia too.

I either fill up hollowed out blueberries with the medication or soak it up in bread, bagels, etc. (a treat) that Sleestack will readily eat!
