He actually looks pretty healthy.. but if you know the basics then he should be ok if not.. here ya go..

Make sure since you have him on that substrate (which I wouldnt have him on) but whatever... put his food in a plate so he wont accidentally eat the bark pieces. Make sure the greens arent bigger than his head..they get calcium with vitd3 in it...they are colllards, musturd greens, butternut squash like grated real fine..anything like that. Just noooo lettuce! Ask.. if youre not sure about the food and someone here will help.

Have a water dish in there ..at least the size of him and not too deep. I would bathe him so he can get used to your touch and help with hydration. Use a large tupperware for the bath unless you want to clean your tub everytime you bathe him and after his bath. Also, spray his tank a lot they need 70% humidity..so go get a thermometer that measures humidity too!

The basking light is good get a temp gun or a digital thermometer with a probe that you can put the probe (wire) directly on the basking spot where he lays to make sure its not too hot or too cold. They need a good basking temp of 92 to be able to digest their food. Make sure the light isnt too close though or he cant touch it. Also, the UVB, make sure is the length of the cage. Also, he needs a cool side around 88 so he can cool down.

Other than that.. just keep an eye on him...I would just put paper towels in his enclosure for you are new and he could digest one of those bark pieces and it could kill him... BUT it’s up to you!! I know people in here like that stuff but..just trying to help you out!

Good luck!

Hi Kiwi,

Welcome to the forum...your little guy doesn’t look to bad.......Go to our post " New Iguana Owners Please Read" and you will find great links with a lot of info....and if you have any questions please feel free to ask.......Well here’s a link to the post:New iggy owners

and here’s a link to my iggy salad that I feed my crew:My iggy salad

Just a word of advice ditch the bark it will cause impactions...best thing to use is eco-earth or reptile carpet, if you don’t want the dirt..The eco-earth really helps keep the humidity levels ups.....His tail will start growing back just give it some time....
