 HELP on Lighting

I don’t like CHE’s for two reasons:
1. Too much heat concentrates in one area (take a temp gun and find out how hot they get!).
2. If they’re not working, I can’t tell at a glance (light emission).

I do however recommend daytime and nighttime lighting. I’ve just happened to use blue lights in my enclosures, but I’m curious to know why red lights are bad.

 HELP on Lighting

Chris, I was doing some research on the red bulbs because all my iggys were acting very weird...very aggressive, grumpy all the time, didn’t want to eat...so I found out that the red bulbs keeps your iggy awake and to alert during the night and now that I recall every time I would go and check on them before I went to bed they were wide awake.......So I changed to the blue night light bulbs and they are just fine now..I check on them at night and they are sound to sleep.....I’ll try and find where I read that....

 HELP on Lighting

Here it is I found it at gr. ig site

Quote:

Some people use nighttime blue or red light bulbs to provide warmth at night. Some iguanas do not mind this at all, while others are bothered by the light and have trouble sleeping. You may want to watch your iguana carefully for signs of stress if you decide to try these nighttime bulbs.

I read somewhere that you are suposed to have intervals such as twelve hours on and twelve hours off. Is it okay to use the red light in the daytime just as a heat source until MoJo is big enough to chill out outside???

 HELP on Lighting

Well first Darubberbandman, you should answer the temps for the day time and night time.

They need light on 12 hours and off 12 hours. It changes during the winter and summer times. The "moon bulbs" look almost like the moon. I use that for a little bit of heat. Their tank/enclosure should be at 76 degrees at night. Around that at least. They need no light, and as Pocochu was saying, it makes some iggs aggresive.

The red bulb might not be enough heat for the igg as well. How hot does the basking area get..and what is the enclosures temps all over during the day time? You also need a UVB bulb..didnt notice you saying anything about that one. Coils arent good by the way. The red bulb also doesnt permit UVA which the iggy needs, but usually gets from a regular basking bulb, which most everyone has. Just go to the pet store and spend 6 bucks and get a bulb. It’s much better than keeping him under a red bulb.....

But like asked..we need your temps....
