What Chris is saying about bad husbandry is that his diet must not be right or his temp & humidity levels are bad...He might not be getting the right amount of calcium..Does he have a UVB light..This is VERY important to have a UVB light..

So maybe you can answer some of these questions for us, we might be able to help you...

What are your temps and humidity levels?

What are you using for heat?

What are you using for lighting? Do you have a UVB bulb?

What is the iggy?s diet? What are you feeding him?

What size is your enclosure?

What are you using for substrate?

Sorry for kind of going off on you ShiftyLarry,it hasn’t exactly been a good day.
The temp is usually kept at around 86-90 in the day and around 80-84 at night. He has a heat wire in the bottom of his cage and a heat lamp up top.Unfortunately I don’t have a UV light but I’m working on that.Until then, he goes outside for 3 hours everyday.
I feed him chopped romaine lettuce, peas, carrots, greenbeans, and other mixed vegetables with Fluker’s repti-calcium on top.He mainly roams my closet when I’m home but till we finish his new cage he’s in a 4’ by 3’ by 2’ though this is only for a couple more days. His new cage is going to be 6’ by 4’ by 4’.His tank has a wired bottom at the moment(it was a former ferret cage which I took apart and remodeled) but there is Reptibark under it in his pan.
I hope you can help.Like my sister said,he’s almost six and from what I hear they’re supposed to be about 5ft by the time they’re 3 years. We haven’t really upgraded his cage since he still seems small for it and just hasn’t outgrown it though i recently took the middle platform out of it and he’s grown about and inch in the past month.

hello!!! 1. your night temp is a little high.( try76-78 degrees)
2.romaine lettuce is bad.(try collard, dandelion, musturd, turnip, or kale greens)
3.UV lighting is very important, get one as soon as possible
4.wire on the floor is bad(he can snag a toenail on it)
5.replace the heat wire with a heating pad or another basking lamp

just remember, all the people on here are trying to help you and your husbandry skills. some people address themselves more aggresively than others.
~Ty~ Hope this helps!!!!

Thanks Ty,
I usually keep the door closed at night so that’s why it’s so high.I’ll leave it open from now on.
I didn’t know romaine was bad for them.I heard that iceberg is.Other than that, is Hibiscus flower alright?
So far he’s never gotten a toenail stuck but I keep the substrate about 2 in. deep and the pan below is only one in. so usually when he’s stepping on the wiring he’s just stepping on the top of the substrate.
I planned on getting another basking lamp once I get his new cage set up so I don’t have more stuff to take apart when I switch him.
Thank you for your help!

When you said other mixed vegetables what vegetables are you talking about because there are some that can have very high phosphorus or high in oxalic acid which can stop the process for the calcium to be absorbed or fix into the bones and that could cause MBD or why not slow growth maybe.
Or maybe that other vegetables where not that nutritious for your iguana.

Basically just the normal mixed vegetable bag of peas, carrots, green beans, spinach.I stay away from high phosphorus vegetables like corn though.Diamond did have calcium deposits when I got him but thanks to alot of sun and calcium powder and calcium drops from the vet, he got over it.Would having calcium deposits when he was about 8 weeks old stunt his growth somehow?

Well that bag of vegetables is not that good, you said you avoid high phosphorus vegetables but the bag has carrots which are high in phosphorus and spinach is very high in oxalic acid so I wouldn’t give that vegetables.

Escarole, chicory green, dandelion, turnip, collards and that kind of greens are better so stay away from the vegetables bags.

Thank you for the advice.I will have to go to the store tomorrow(it’s closed at the moment) and get some.I saw on greenigsociety that mango was good for them but I offered him some and he licked it once and then just went over to his peas. Also, Hibiscus flower, can that be used as a temporary staple?

Thank you,
JoAnne

Update: Good News! Instead of the 6’ by 4’ by 4’ cage I was going to build him, my friend had to get rid of his iguana because it broke it’s leg(which i guess that part’s not good news) and offered me his iguana’s old cage.By tomorrow(hopefully if I can get it home),Diamond will have an 6’ tall by 8’ long by 4’ wide cage which I will be setting up as soon as I get it home.I’m going to put a bunch of vines and logs in there, set up a basking spot(unfortunately the former owner just kept it outside),get a UVB lamp,a couple more basking lamps, hopefully a moon light if I can afford it and I will work on it to fix it up so it’s more for a growing iguana instead of a six foot full grown.I’ll try to post pics while I work on it soon.
