How old do iguanas have to be to mate? 
hey i have a green ig thats a male and my friend has a female we are thinking of mating them. how old do they have to be to mate and how should we incubate the eggs?

Do you read anything? DO NOT MATE GREEN IGUANA’S! There are so many out there without a home or that have been treated very badly and are put up for adoption! Plus people mass produce them! PLEASE I BEG YOU DO NOT BREED THEM! And if you don’t listen or heed my warning and many many many other people’s info about. What do you plan to do with them? Keep them all? Sell them? Keeping that many would be alot of trouble, selling them would only add to the great number of them around the world and even then those people might not care for them and the cycle will continue! THINK AND READ ALOT BEFORE YOU DO THIS, BUT I SUGGEST YOU DON’T!

Please do not breed them. There are not enough people that want iguanas. They are a throw away pet. Rescues are full of them and cannot find good homes. People do not take proper care of them and then dump them when they are too much trouble or get too large. An iguana can lay 100 eggs. How do you plan to find 100 good homes for these creatures? And if you can, then you should send your contacts to a rescue instead because those igs need homes.

First off why are you even thinking of mating them??? Don’t you know that theres are hundrads in shelters all over the world, ones that are being mistreated, ones that are "set free" because there owner no longer wants them?!? DON’T breed its THAT simple, cheak with your locle reptile rescues, humane sociteys, newspaper ads & take a look at the people trying to get rid of there adult iguanas onlin, also your frineds iguana could be severly injured by your male..... belive me there are TOO many unwanted ones already.... its not a lie, and small lizards sucha s bearded dragon can lay 30 eggs a time several times a year... a green iguana will likely lay near 50 several times a year... thats ALOT of babies to care for... some you may NEVER be able to sell and will nee dot keep... do you have room for 30+ 6 foot iguanas in your home? could you pay for 5.0 uvb lighting, heat lamps and bulbs and food for all of these babies? can you house all these babies????? I highly doubt it unless you have a barn made into a iguana frinedly area... no drafts or anything to startle them.

How is making you self aware about the stupidity of breeding the green iguana me acting like a jerk? If you’ve actually ever read into anything on igunan’s you should know that there are way too many without homes and all. My god! I don’t even own one yet and I still had enough sense to research all! But I guess my 2 pennies is just me being a jerk?

well what i think the guy is saying is that people on forums can be a little condescending at times (ryoflex) and i agree. people come here to get information and thats what this guy is doing. you said that you had the sense to research like kinglover didnt.but what is he doing on a forum then.but kinglover i do agree too many people like new things and tire of the old.btw has anyone seen that halo vid of real life vs. internet
