My turtle SOUP escaped from its tank yesterday

I didnt know SOFTSHELL could climb!!Yes they can and very well!Their hands are used almost like a geckos hands and they can walk on the walls like a gecko!Well, SOUP climbed the walls of its tank and hid itself in the balcony.Although the balcony is small there are so many cages and plant vases and turtles vases that it became difficult to walk in it.Most difficult it was to find a turtle!!When I found it I was dirty and sweaty. But SOUP didnt want to be taken back into the vase so it run away and I still had to run after it!!SOUP is very inteligent and it was really difficult to take it.Without mentioning that it is very wild and wanted to bite me!!SOUP was lucky I found it soon because my balcony is very hot and sunny and if I didnt find it SOUP will not last long in the sun.

Now SOUP is back to the water and I put a grate(?)covering the tank.

 SOUP must be feeling good!

She is obviously healed up from that horrible fall caused by that maid, and is now a happy wanderer. I’m glad to hear you found her but even happier to hear that she is feeling so good that she is causing trouble for you. Hurray for a sweet softshell turtle!!!!

 Heehee, speaking of devils...

I think Amazon is growing horns! For about a month now 3 scales on his snout have been a little elevated, and getting a bit bigger over time. Maybe it’s a little premature to hope, but I think my baby iglet is trying to let his devil side show.

Re: Re: Heehee, speaking of devils...

I mean both. Just so he doesn’t turn into a horny devil anytime soon, I need to save up my strength for mating season should he grow up to be a boy.

 Unless......

Raphael’s iguana comes to join your home and turns out to be a girl. Never say never!

Silly little Shena to be hiding huge boy parts in a body that looked kinda girly. I guess he’s a Sherman now, unless you’ve chosen a different name. Maybe he could have a Malaysian name since that is where he showed his boyness?

 Malaysian names are funny...

There is a Malaysian girl that works for the Embassy and her name is Poh Kwan...Do you remember the movie Pokahontas? Its the name of Pokahontas’ sister!Thats a small world!A Malaysian girl that has the same name of a North American sioux girl. And she didnt take the name because of the movies because she is already on her 30ths...

Flavia

PS Pokahontas is sioux isnt she?

Well you can think Flavia is weird also.Flavia is a latin name. From the Roman Empire.Flavius, emperor of Rome.In Portuguese in general names finished in A are feminine and names finished in O are masculine. Flavia for girls and Flavio for boys.

 Re: Malaysian names are funny...

I know a Po Kwan myself, a Chinese girl who used to live 2 apartments down from me before I moved in June. It’s a very small world. I loved Po Kwan, she was about 5 and very sweet and funny. I miss her.

I wasn’t sure what tribe Pocohontas was from, but definitely not Sioux. The Sioux are from north-central US, like North and South Dakota and roamed through the plains states hunting buffalo. Pocohontas was from the mid-Atlantic seaboard, in Virginia. So I looked it up and she was a member of the Powhatan tribe. That was also her father’s name because he was the chief. I never would have guessed that her father and her tribe had the same name!

Soooooooo, what do I call Shena now?? My friend Chris, known as yellermelon on the web, has a boy bearded dragon that was sold to him as a female and named Lilly. His girlfriend named "her" and loves the name, so he is still a little Lilly boy. I guess they are just too used to the name to consider calling him anything else. When Chris writes an email to me, he usually also calls Lilly "she" and "her". Old habits die hard.

Her tribe and people are real but

I dont think John Smith was real and their love was real too.But perhaps hundreds of years ago an indian girl fall in love with a white man.In the Brazilian literature we have romances like that too.Yes, we still have indians in Brazil.Real indians that never had any contact with white men.

Flavia

PS I think I will continue calling Shena...Shena...Im used to her/his name and he/she too.

PPS Thank you for the history lesson, Eyespy.I knew I could count on you!!

Re: Her tribe and people are real but

Well, there was a Pocohontas and there was a John Smith but I don’t think it was all hearts and sunshine and Disney-type stuff. She moved to England, became a lady of the British court and most folks say she was kidnapped and kept in England against her will to show the might of the British in conquering the New World, sort of a race with the Spanish people. She was supposed to be demonstrating that the British would tame the savages instead of kiling them off, so they were far more worthy to "own" the Americas. Here’s her portrait from the National Gallery in London:
