Skinnny iguanna I just rescued an iguana, and I give him proper food, heat, and water, but he still seems skinny, because he’s quite wrickly on the sides. What should I do to get him bigger?

Skinnny iguanna How long have you had the ig, what are you currently feeding, and does he have proper UV (Your posting specifies heat but not UVA/UVB). I’m assuming you’ve read other posts here and know what is "proper", but just to be sure I thought I’d ask. Being sure that the diet is varied will help to fatten him up, as even if you are feeding some of the recommended foods they may not be his particular favorites and trying some of the others on the list may increase his appetite. When we had to fatten ours after her egg laying, we found that if we gave her too much mango or too many berries (her favorites) she would pick them off and not eat her greens or squash. We started breaking or cutting small amounts up (like one berry) and placing it around the top of her food. It drew her attention and she’d immediately come down to eat and eventually lick the plate almost clean. Some others will probably be able to give you some other recommendations, but we haven’t had to add packaged diet to fatten yet (though we were considering it at a certain point for our new baby and the older female I mentioned above, but both decided to fatten themselves up!). Good luck!

Skinnny iguanna ive had em for like a month, and he does have uva/uvb, he has a variety of his foods.....not too much of one thing. And he always has something different. He doesnt move but when i go play with em, he gets active and is a lil aggressive too. But not worried about that at all. Just tryin to fatten em up, cuz he kinda scares me.

Skinnny iguanna Hmmm... I don’t know. Jiff recommended soaked RepCal Iguana pellets to add to the salad when I asked how to fatten my baby rhino ig, but she fattened up before I could even find it, so I don’t have personal experience with the product (though Jiff gives very good advice). How old is the ig, and what conditions was he rescued from (if you know)?

Skinnny iguanna Wrinkles are usually an indication of dehydration. Getting the animal properly hydrated is more important initially then getting weight on. Twice daily soaks in the tub, lots of misting, and the feeding of very moist foods may help in this. Try to get some juicy melons or water-soaked whole wheat bread into him. The soaked RepCal pellets can help here. Also, spray his salads with water just before serving. Once an iguana suffers from malnutrition and is thin it takes a long time to regain normal weight. These are before and after photos of an emaciated iguana that we took in 3 years ago. You can see that it has no flesh at all in it’s tail in the first photo. It took about 9 months to get the iguana up to normal weight.
