Hello:)

I just use a spray bottle to spray Sam down(and I do A LOT of spraying and wiping since I cannot bathe him..:) and a humidifier. The foggers go into water right? I would imagine you would need a big enough one along with keeping it protected so to keep your Iguana away from it. My thoughts anyway,

As for the light hood, have you looked online for one? I am sure you could find one there.

Good luck
Tone~

well i was thinking about the fogger because that would help with humidity...get a large water container, stick it under her basking shelf (she never goes under there) and fence around it to keep her out of it if she ever gets curious. and have little d-rings that i can undo to open one side and refil the water...but the fog stays on the ground...would that even help her any?

does the humidifier go inside or outside the cage?

i have looked everywhere online...i even did graigs list and e bay...nothing...and all the other reptile sites are asking 90-150$ for the fixture...holy cow! i think i am going to end up getting 2 2ft strips and bulbs...gonna cost me an extra 23$ but its better than en extral 100$ lol.

I have no clue as to how the fogger would work humidity wise. I know my son had bought one but it was small and it was merely like dry ice in my opinion but it was just quickly tried and he brought it back. I have my humidifier outside. Many of the members have a tube rigged from the opening of the humidifier going to an opening in the enclosure. I am running a warm mist right now and have not found anything suitable. I did have a dryer hose? tube? silver thing? haha sorry I am really sick and my brain is not working...ANYWAY, it rusted when we used it over the summer so it was trashed.

And yes, those fixtures are pricey! Another reason I love my (well Sam’s) megaray. Ya know you can maybe try asking in the wanted section on Craigslist and freecycle as well. Ya never know what someone may have that they are not using and would be willing to offer you.

good luck with it all

Tone~

I have a humidifier, but seriously it doesn’t do much.

I keep it inside the cage, but I can’t keep the humidity above 30. I have to keep spraying the crap out of the cage all day.

Sill,

Is it an open cage in a large room? I usually have Sam’s humidity at 70-80 percent. I used to run the humidifier 12 hours but now am running it about 8.
Remember also that when it is nights out time, you do not want to have a wet cage if you are spraying it alot.

Try to find an electrical supplier in your city. They will have the "ends" and a ballast. Make sure the wattage on the ballast and bulb are right. Then you can use a 2x4 to build your own fixture. I have regular flouresent lights in my basement made this way. Been there for years.
Take the UVB bulb with ya and the people working there should be able to fix ya up.
Hope you can get it going, good luck.

Tone-

Yes, my cage has plastic mesh on the doors and it’s in a big room. I keep the humidifier running all day and turn it off near nighttime (I get up real early to turn it on, the iguana is an earky riser)

Here is a front view

and inside

The top is mesh covered in towels to keep in the moisture.
I think I may have a humidifier that kust isn’t doing what I want it to. It was around 35-40 dollars, but it’s made for children

any help would be appreciated! I would love to see Sam’s moisture set up! I’m really worried about the lack of constant humidity in my iguana’s habitat (that’s why I mist the crap out him every few hours, but he doesn’t seem to enjoy it)

Bird, sorry if I seem like I’m jacking your topic. I was going to start another one, but I didn’t want to make another similiar thread when this one seems to be working :)

Sill,

We are on topic here so I am sure she will not mind. There are past posts regarding humidity and you will find me quoting how much I DETEST humidifiers. Been through 5 of them in some way or other. Sam’s enclosure is open and he is in my son’s room. I merely have the warm mist standing on a milk crate (for now) running outside of his enclosure. My son is really dying in there but he should have thought about humidity beforehand. I am using a Vicks warm mist and it is pretty good. During the summer months, I used a cool mist and I currently have a Honeywell that runs great except if you put it on the highest setting it starts to leak out of the bottom. Trust me this is the least of my worries with these darn things. That humidifier is cute but is it blowing air or actually misting? I won’t even go into the ones I returned because they simply blew out air.
Are you giving your Iguana a bath and does he shed regularly? I cannot bathe Sam due to his intense fear of water (since his illness last winter) so he gets sprayed and washed as needed.
not sure what else to tell you. The quest for the perfect humidity is truly a big one. You will probably need to find something better(ultrasonic).

And Bird (Kylie right??) hope you did not mind but it is still on topic with the fogger/humidity kind of :) Try searching on CL like I told you. I saw a fixture there for sale but the person advertising did not specify the size and they are asking 10.00

Hugs,
Tone~

The red drahon humidierf is putting out mist, just not enough.

I saw a warm mist thing at Wal-Mart. I am thinking about getting it, the dragon only has cool mist. It’s still warm where I live, but getting cooler each day.

What exactly is the thing you have on milk crates? Is that the warm mist?

About makeing a light fixture out of wood, yes you`ll have to seal it first.
Our IG, like Tone`s is in my sons room and the warm mist I have running in there brings the temp of his room up at least 10 degrees and the humidity level stays around 70- 75 %. The warm mist I have is called Reli-On. Its really works well and I got it new in box at a thrift store for $5.00 !! I keep the bedroom door shut and the blinds pulled up so solar heat gets in the room also.
Heres a pic of one of my homemade lights...

i was looking online, and i think its zoo med that makes a kit for this. its got the 2 ballast, and everything else i will need, along with a timer. its 59$...i was talking to my electrical buddy, and he said it would be cheaper and i would get more out of it if i went for the kit. sound good?

i am going to start checking craigs list and free cycle for a humidifier. do i need a cool mist or warm mist?

By far Im no expert. But, I would say with winter coming, go for the warm mist.
Maybe someone here will know for sure.

It depends on how your temps are through the winter, Here, in this apt, we barely get heat, The cool mist definitely drops the temps down, So if you are looking to keep it warmer along with humid, definitely go with the warm mist, There are some who use the cool mist throughout the entire year, We used the cool mist in the summer as there was no AC running or anything, Even the window fan in my son’s room if turned on would suck down the humidity.
So, in our experience here and opinion as well, we need to go with the warm mist with all these cooler months.

Have a beautiful Sunday all
Tone~
p.s. A transformer blew about a 1 1/4 miles from here that chain reacted and blew out others. Poor Sam put himself to bed at 6pm. He normally goes to sleep around 8:30..poor baby. I have not checked on him yet so not to bother him (son is out) but I am guessing he is awake. talk about appreciating electricity :)

haha i know about the electricity thing. i am still living with mom, and she is slowly pulling herself out of finical trouble...back on the excat day i got all the materials for shela’s cage...they turned our electricity off. i had no way to keep everyone warm...or to build her cage (which i was thrilled to get started and didnt want to wait). but (this sounds kinda ghetto) we ran an extra long extension cable across out steps from out neighbors living room (they were fine with it) so that i could keep everyone warm. and then when i put everyone to bed, i unplugged the lights...and mom and i watched a movie on my portable dvd player...haha we were camping out! but i paid it, got the electricity turned on next day...and away i went with shela’s cage. lol

but i will keep my eyes open for a warm mist one. thanks guys!

I am definitely going to go out and get a warm mist. I’ll keep the cool dragon mist though, because summertime where I live is horrible. Miserable humidity, even for an iggy.

I use humidifiers and they have always done great for me. A bath weekly is the best thing you can do if you want to avoid humidifiers. I of course have two Iguanas who measure in the length of five foot. The cages are huge and they have a bigger room than me.

I’ve had a reli-on warm mist humidifier for about a week now, and it keeps the room at about 60% if we keep the door closed all the time. I also spray his cage when ever I think about it and he gets a bath for as long as he’ll stay still (he’s been hyper lately, lol), about once a day.
