Iguana stressed out from the vet
I took my iguana to the vet today to have some blood work done. Iggy has never gone to the vet before, not had his nails trimmed. Well, of course he didn’t like it one bit. So now we’re home and his color has returned to normal. But every time I go to his cage to talk to him he gets really defensive and starts breathing really heavy. I’m sure this is normal because of his traumatic experience this morning, but I’m just wondering how long it will last. Also, while filing down on the his nails, the vet hit the vein and it bled, which I’m sure isn’t very comfortable. I’m just going to leave Iggy alone with a large bowl of food and a few treats, but if anyone has better suggestions for making him less scared (especially of his owner) I would appreciate it.I’ll get the results of the blood work tonight. Keep your fingers crossed! Annie

Iguana stressed out from the vet I just took my Iggy to the vet’s today and found out that he has parasites. He was trying to bite people at the vet’s. When I took him home he kept opening his mouth to me when I got near him. And normally he never bites or opens his mouth so I know he’s just mad at me for taking him there. Now he climbed on the curtain and is going ot sit there for the rest of the day. I think your Iggy should be fine after couple of days. That’s usually how long mine takes to calm down. Good luck on the blood test I hope he’s ok.

Iguana stressed out from the vet The vet called back and told me I needed to come back next week. Either my 11 yr old Iggy either has renal failure OR is a she and is ovulating for the first time. Iggy is a rescue who wasn’t fed properly for the first 8 years :( They’re have never been eggs in the cage, but the vet said possibly that the good nutrition now is what is causing this over flux of calcium (blood tests showed high calc levels). I hope he is a she. If not, I don’t know how I’m going to deal with renal failure. The vet said they could do all of these things that include cutting on Iggy, but I don’t think he’s up for all of that in his old age. This really puts a damper on things.

Iguana stressed out from the vet So sorry to hear that. I hope it isn’t renal failure, and wish you both the best. Please let us know how the second visit goes, and know we are here for support if you should need it.

Iguana stressed out from the vet Iguanas do sure hate the vets. Sleestack freaks out and his blood work is always a bit off because of it. I hope your ig doesn’t have renal failure. Good luck.
