 Im back with another question !!!!

This ones about water. Ever since we got Ziggy I have only given him bottle water. At first it was bottled drinking water. The second day we had him I bought "distilled" water by the gallon. This is all he is misted with and all he gets to drink or bathe( haven`t seen him do that yet)
My question is; is this required ? Is it ok to let him drink tap water? Or mist him with tap water??
Im also afraid to put any kind of carpet in his house because he might ingest a fiber by accident. Is this something I should be so paranoid about??
Anyway, thanks in advance for any help.....

Hi Wade,

Why are you using distilled? I only use distilled when I do certain kind of health fasts since it is pretty much a "dead" water. I use filtered water for Sam’s drinking bowls but I spray him with tap. I just prefer to give him as well as the bird the filtered water to drink.

As for the carpet, just make sure that it is not regular carpeting and it is the outdoor/indoor type.The one that I have Sam’s shelves covered with is more plastic like in texture than anything and I used a heat gun to seal all the edges to avoid any fraying.My next step is to somehow get the darned kitty condo bottom out of his hab. For some weird reason he wants to eat that darned carpet. He generally does not try and eat non food items (not a big eater even with food) but something about that condo base carpeting that he has to go down there and try to devour. His tree is on there and I would literally have to take down half of his enclosure to get that out so anyway that is my dilemma. What did you want the carpeting for? If you feel better not doing something, then do not do it. You know what is best for your Iguana :)
So if it is tap water and no carpet, that is certainly fine. I pulled at a lot of carpeting before I opted to get this one. I pulled on the kitty condo too but never would I have thought he would find it appetizing :)

this is a tricky one...distilled water is untreated water. id be afriad to let them drink it. i only use it to clean my cages because it washes away the vinegar i use to get the water deposit off my geckos 20L gallons. we humans arent supposed to drink distilled cuz it can make us sick. the only problem with tap water is all the chemicals that are used to treat it. water deposits on the glass tanks is just built up iron deposits. not to sure on this one, but i tried. i have used tap water for almost 7 years with my frogs and geckos. never had a problem. as for the bath thing, wash your bath tub out really well, dont use any chemicals...fill it up to about your iggys shoulder (if hes small, use a small pan or container) and put your iggy in to swim. shela doesnt always like her baths, but i leave her in the tub to soak for about 15mins. she tries to get out for the first 30 seconds...then she relaxes and swims around or just floats around with her eyes closed...when it comes time to take her out, she struggles to get back in the warm water. btw...use water that is warm on your hand...but not hot.

as for the carpet, shela’s furniture right now is just a 2x4...and a spare piece of plywood that i covered in outdoor carpet. i got a HUGE roll of it from home depot for 15$. its just the green carpet that you would put on your porch or patio. never had a problem with it.theres no pieces she can chew off, but she doesnt act like she wants to. also, there are no fibers to it like a normal carpet.

hey tone...9 chanches outta 10 the kitty condo has cat nip in it...maybe your iggy is addicted to it like my cats are...dont know if its good for him or not. lol. i have a 7ft tall cat tree that had cat nip on it when we first got it...and i have 5 cats...omg it was a circus in my house when we first got the tree. haha

Thanks for the info everyone. I dont want to use my tap water so is it OK to use bottled drinking water??
I`ve been buying the distilled water by the gallon and can just swap and get the gallon size "drinking" water?

That is absolutely fine Wade. Distilled water is NOT bad. It just has all the minerals sucked out of it. I give Sam bottled spring water when the filter runs out and I am inbetween :)
