New Ig Owner with some questions Okay I got Fluffy about 2 Weeks ago Everything is set up fine for him/her, except we are working on getting her home built and she is in a 20 gal long for now.... I am just wondering if and when she/he will calm down, she/he is appox. 14" long and very aggressive, she runs around the cage when I feed her like a crazed lizard, she also tries to bite alot, I let her bite me so that she can learn that it will not work as a defense and hopefully when she is bigger she won’t bite when it can hurt me, I would like to know if any one else had a very hyper ig when they first brought theirs home and how long it to them to adjust to the new owners and homes? Thanks for any help, Jen

New Ig Owner with some questions Yea, he or she is not going to calm down for a while...you have to handle him/her every day and not just for 10 mins. I got my new iguana on sunday and he isn’t very nice right now either...you just have to keep working at it...I’ve read 6-9 months if you do it right...you just buy a book...I have the Iguanas for Dummies book...it’s great...or you can visit anapsid.org!

New Ig Owner with some questions My ig was the same way when I got her almost 2 years ago. I handled her for awhile, but she got so nasty that I just left her in the cage all the time. Recently I started handling her again. I started wearing garden gloves but was able to gradually stop using them. It took about 2 months, but now I can handle her with no problems. She will use a harness and loves to go outside and take walks in the sunshine.

New Ig Owner with some questions
Green Ig society has a GREAT link, you’ll have to do some searching though on their site-about taming. Like starting with isolating the cage a bit, sitting in the same room for starters, etc. Eisa is 2 yrs, we got her 2 ms. ago and she’s still going crazy but not as bad. Remember, approach from the side and scoop under the belly. I’m not sure about letting it bite though, she’s never bit me, just the previous owners, but that can turn into a bad habit-thoughts anyone?
