 Thought I’d Share

I think we’ve found our new regular pet store today. They not only specialize in exotics (birds, reptiles, and tropical fish), are a local business (NOT a chain), have a great selection of reptile supplies at decent prices (even some things I’ve never seen before, and we found the heat bulb we’ve been all over looking for), but best of all they have signs on all of the reptile tanks saying "These animals require special lighting and an additional heat source. If you do already own or intend to purchase these requirements, please do not buy these animals." Almost all of their animals were in larger enclosures (for a pet store) that were custom made, and though they did have baby green igs, they had the before mentioned sign as well as a sign stating their full size at 6 feet.

I’m so glad to have found what appears to be a responsible local pet store. I forgot to pay attention to what the reps were being fed, but will remember to check it out next time.

Yeah, me too...possibly. Think it’d be weird to have a reptile store/fine art gallery in one, LOL?! Doubt I can do both, so I’ll have to choose (I have my BFA in Fine art, and am looking into taking some business courses at community college for the knowledge, not another degree necessarily, because I DO intend to start my own business in either art or reps). If I can start selling my work again through other galleries, maybe I’ll just open the rep store.

The one other thing I did notice was that the reps were on bark substrate. I have a feeling that stores do this so the cages don’t look "dirty" with droppings which show up and stand out more on paper. This does make sense, however any serious reptile owner knows that healthy poops are one sign of a healthy animal, so I may go back and try to talk to someone in charge in the future, or put together a packet they (who ever is working), can pass on to the owner/manager about the problems and complications bark substrates can cause. They appear to care about their animals, so I think they may actually consider it. Maybe I should put together some care sheets as well (at least for igs, & maybe other species) that I think they would be happy to hand out to those purchasing reptiles from them, as I would provide them to them free of cost.
