Today was a good day on the cage. I have almost all of the framework done. I worked all day on this cage and still have a long way to go. It is going to be a corner cage 7ft tall around 5ft wide and a good 4ft deep. It is going to be huge. I think the Ig will like this better than the 20 gal. aquarium hes in now.

There are a few things u can do to see if the iguana is male or female. If the spikes along its back are long, then its male, if of shorter stature then female. If u are unsure about the spikes, check the head. On the head, behind the eyes, are large humps. If ur igg lacks these humps, it is female. Males will have a temdency to bob their heads.

Thanks for the male/female advice. The family member giving me the iguana doesnt know what sex it is. As for the cage i spent another day building the frame and i am done with the frame. Now i will begin covering it. I have a Question I am going to put ledges in the cage for the Ig to lay on. What should i use for the ledges? I was thinking about using a fairly thin decorative rock but i may just use wood. What do you all think? And another ? I want to put a big pond in the bottom of it for the Ig to get in. If i do this will i need to warm the water? Maybe put a light above it or something to heat the water.

Use something that you can easily clean or replace for shelves or branches. I would not recommend a pond. A removable container of water that can easily be cleaned is a better idea. Igs are known to poop in water and you will have a lot of bacteria growing in there.

ok I decided to go with tree branches should these be real or fake, I think it would be better to do fake. As far as the pond Yea probably to much trouble to keep it clean. So XTA do u use something like a kitty litter pan? I believe that would be a good item to use.

I use a round sturdy water dish tub but I give mine a bath everyday anyway. He poops in the bathtub. A cat litter pan would be fine.

Hey i am curious on what lights you all use. I have purchased a 150W Heat Glo infrared bulb for night use. now i need a UVB light and i am not sure on which one to buy. Looking at the mercury bulb but not sure.

Nice cage. Make sure your night heat doesn’t give off light. They need darkness. I use a ceramic heat emitter (CHE) which is a bulb that doesn’t give off light. For UV you can use a MV bulb if you choose. I use the Zoomed Powersun bulb. However, I also use the Zoomed Reptisun 5.0 at times (the flourescent one). It is not as powerful and needs to be changed every 6 months. You also need to bask closer to it so for your cage you may want an MV bulb.

That is an awesome cage, I’m sure your baby will be so happy in it. We use a CHE 24 hours a day, a 150 watt zoomed bask light from 7 a.m.-6p.m., and a Reptisun 5.0 UV for that same time too. Eisa crashes once the lights go out so she doesn’t use a night light.

arggg why cant i post a new thread? everytime i try it tells me i am not logged in. Anywho the cage is complete and the new ig is basking in the lights. I have one problem. I cant seem to get the temp up. The cool side is staying at about 76 so he spends alot of time under the lights. anyone have any suggestions on how to raise the temp. I also put a little fountain in the cage to try to bring up the humidity. It was at 30% before i put it in there. hopefully the water in the fountain will bring up the humidity. All in all the ig seems to like the cage. It is a big change for it coming from a 20 gal aqarium.
